Following my lessons the past two Sundays, I have received inquiries concerning my recent encouragement to "lean into" our human experiences, including our grief. In my lessons I have talked about allowing ourselves to be fully present with our feelings, while also maintaining conscious awareness of our spiritual nature. I hold that the true freedom we all seek lies in our willingness and ability to be fully present for whatever life presents us with in any moment, even those things that stimulate feelings we identify as "negative." My lessons, while comforting and affirming for some, seem to have been confusing for others. I would like to offer additional thoughts here in hopes of bringing clarity.

I believe the questions I received stem from the New Thought teaching that the Absolute nature of God as Good is the only reality and that to acknowledge anything other than that limits our realization and manifestation of our Absolute Good. A common affirmation of faith in Unity is...

God Is                            : Identifying and Growing Our Ideas of the Divine

Whether we realize it or not, the ideas we hold about God and the Divine are some of the most powerful ideas in our consciousness. Not only do these ideas color and influence how we handle the situations of everyday life, they are an indicator of our own state of being. But how well do we know what we think about God? What parts of our earliest ideas of God still influence us today? Are we subconsciously counting on a "man upstairs" to take care of business? Do we still lay blame at the feet of some capricious, unpredictable God external and separate from us even as we affirm "There is One Presence and One Power, God the Good"? Whatever the ideas and images we may hold about God, there's room for growth. I hope you'll join us Sunday as we begin to identify the God ideas we hold, discern how they are affecting our lives, and embrace an even bigger, broader, and deeper concept of the Divine.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Stephanie Insinna
NEW STAFFNewStaff

We are pleased to announce two additions to our staff at Unity Spiritual Center Denver.

Stephanie R. Insinna joined the staff this month as our part-time Ministry Coordinator. Stephanie is a candidate in the Master of Arts in Social Change degree program at Iliff School of Theology. She will be graduated in June of 2016. Her passion is creating community. She will be using her skills from over a dozen years in the corporate/for-profit sector along with her graduate degree in social change to help Unity Spiritual Center Denver co-create community both internally and externally. She will be doing this by developing structure and organization through which to better operate as well as creating new and exciting ministries for people to come together.

Ken Rinehart joined the staff in November 2015 as our part-time Media Coordinator. You have probably seen Ken on Sunday mornings at the back of
Ken Rinehart
the sanctuary shooting video of the service, or at an event shooting photos. Ken moved to Denver a few years ago after many years in Iowa. In searching for a new spiritual home he arrived at Unity Spiritual Center Denver after researching a few different centers on-line. Over the past few months he has begun developing and refining Unity Spiritual Center Denver's on-line presence. His experience includes the past few decades working in Public Radio, Software Development for Early Child Literacy, and Video development for e-learning courses. His passion for gathering and shaping video, audio, and still photography content to tell the stories of individuals, and non-profit organizations will help in letting the world see what goes on in our specific, special, and unique spiritual community.

We are confident that both of these individuals will assist us in meeting the needs of our community in more proactive ways and promoting our spiritual community to those who are seeking a loving, supportive spiritual home.

Please join us in welcoming them.

Lessons in Truth
Tuesdays, January 19 - February 16
6:30 - 8:30 pm

Facilitated by David Howard

We are embarking on an exciting adventure to explore Truth, with Dr. H. Emilie Cady. Dr. Cady was a physician and metaphysician in the New Thought movement. The chapters that form Lessons in Truth are some of the very first metaphysical discussions published by Unity. This book is an important foundation to the understanding of Unity metaphysics.

The purpose of this course is to help students become familiar with metaphysics, as understood in Unity. Further, it will help guide students to discovering and implementing spiritual tools to express their spiritual freedom.

The class if offered on a love-offering basis.
Students who wish to take the class for Spiritual Education and Enrichment credit through Unity Worldwide Ministries may do so. A $45 filing fee is required.

To register, please email David at David@UnityDenver.org

*             Identify the benefits for developing Emotional and Spiritual Intelligence.

Ongoing Tai' Chi Gung Class
Thursdays 7:00 - 8:00 pm
TaiChiGung

Do you want to make your spiritual life physical?

Tai Chi Gung is sometimes called the "simple yoga". It features fluid breathing and graceful moving exercises that build stamina, relieve stress, improve balance, speed recovery from injury, strengthen the immune system, foster peace of mind and develop mental focus. This gentle, ancient system of health and longevity from Tibet has been passed down in an unbroken lineage from the original Master Boganathar, known in China as the sage Lao T zu for 3000 years.

Can the Infinite Abundance in your mind be in your body as well?

Tai Chi Gung includes a series of simple standing exercises that help people connect to the energy of the life force in nature consciously. It is an ancient art and science that shows students how to draw, store, project and release the chi through their spirit, mind and physical body; gradually returning it to the perfect image in which it was originally created ... manifesting good on earth as it is in heaven.

Facilitated by  Rev. Phyllis Hoover, ThD on a love-offering basis.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

BROWN BAG BLESSINGS
Y.O.U. Service Project

Most of us experience some sort of internal struggle when we see a person standing on the corner begging for money or food. We often ask ourselves, "Should I give them money or not? Do I make eye contact or look away? If I give them money will they use it for food or alcohol or drugs? Is giving them money going to do any good?" brownbagblessings

It truly is "The Season of Wonder" and our Y.O.U. has created a powerful answer to support you and our Denver area community.

"Brown Bag Blessings" are bags filled with items such as socks, hats, gloves, granola bars, beef jerky, water, shampoo that are kept in your car, so when you have this encounter you have something to offer. These bags will be ready for distribution the on February 21st.

How can you partner with us?
We are seeking donations (see the box in the lobby for a complete list of items needed), both physical and monetary, along with corporate sponsorship.
Do you own or have a business contact that would like to support this project?  Letters, for potential company support, are also available in the lobby.

We deeply appreciate your generous support ~ taking action and holding this life altering project in high consciousness ~ thank you and bless you!

Family Promise of Greater DenverFamilyPromise
and Unity Spiritual Center Denver

We are excited to announce that Unity Spiritual Center Denver will partner with Family Promise of Greater Denver as a host the week of March 28- April 3, 2016.

Family Promise of Greater Denver offers hope and assistance to help homeless families once again achieve self-sufficiency. Support provided includes goal setting, parenting skills, money management, and help with locating housing and employment. They help children and their families realize positive outcomes that lead to greater self-sufficiency.

The mission of Family Promise is to end homelessness one family at a time.

Our intention is to be a Host Congregation which includes providing housing and meals at our building for one week intervals three to four times per year, as well as other support services. This will require a commitment of time and energy from many caring and compassionate sacred servers (aka volunteers). There is a role you can fill.

A training session is scheduled for Sunday, January 31, from 11:45 to 1:45.

Please contact Jessica Nguyen for more information on ways that you can support this ministry.

ARE YOU ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTING TO
Unity Spiritual Center Denver?

We recently learned that if you have a zero balance on your re-loadable for Unity King Soopers card for 30 days or longer, it is no longer connected to the payback program.

While you can still re-load your card as usual, it is no longer connected to Unity of Denver, and thus, does not contribute to our  payback program.
The only way to rectify this is to purchase another $10 card in our bookstore, and be sure to use it once a month.

NOT SURE... if your card is still active in the payback program, please email the office with the serial number on the back of your card for confirmation.

If you don't have a card, they are available in the bookstore for $10. *This initial $10 is available for use at any King Soopers.  You can reload it thereafter and use it just like cash and Unity Spiritual Center Denver will receive 5% of your total purchase.
This program has been a good source of income for us in the past!
