Swing the Bat!
Special Kentucky Plant Edition
Greetings!
Welcome to a special edition of Swing the Bat!

Last week, Sonoco publicly announced its intention to  build a new EPP plant in Shelbyville, KY.  Construction on the $12 million facility will begin shortly and the plant is expected to be fully operational in 4Q 2014.

The Shelbyville location was chosen due to its proximity to key customers, overall business climate, and the quality of the local workforce.  When fully operational, the new plant will create 51 full-time jobs in the area and make a significant contribution to the area's already booming automotive industry.  Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear applauded the decision saying "Our automotive industry continues to stand out as one of the best in the nation, and we owe a lot of that success to quality suppliers such as Sonoco..."

Sonoco to Establish a New Plant in Kentucky!

The new facility will complement Sonoco's existing network of molded foam plants and is a key part of the Division's growth strategy.  "Due to the significant growth in Sonoco's molded foam component business over the past few years, it was imperative that we add to our manufacturing capacity in order to support that growth," said Jeff Christensen, VP Industrial, "thr new facility in Shelbyville is critical to our ability to continue delighting our customers and further position us as the supplier of choice across the markets we serve."

"The addition of this new manufacturing facility in Shelbyville along with the one built earlier this year in Celaya, MX points towards Sonoco's commitment to support and grow the Protective Solutions division," said Vicki Arthur, VP Protective Solutions.  "Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this project a reality."
