Check It Out!
Did you know that we recently published  an article in Design 2 Part magazine?

Design 2 Part is a publication aimed at "helping OEM's solve tough manufacturing problems."   We were interviewed by the editor and they thought our molded foam specialty components would be perfect for the publication!

The hard copy comes out in December of 2012, but there is a sneak peek on the website.

Sonoco Takes Off with EPDM Software Launch

Sonoco Protective Solutions has officially launched  a new engineering data management system called EPDM.  After over a year of analysis and testing, the system officially went live on October 1st, 2012.  The system will help organize and keep all the information relative to specific part numbers in one place. It will also allow users to submit projects to engineering (must like the old PRS system), and allow users to access information regarding the projects they're working on.

The EPDM system will house CAD drawings, Excel sheets, Word documents, PDF files, quotes, etc.  It will ensure that the most up to date revision of a drawing is used for manufacturing, reduce errors, improve efficiency, and streamline the entire project submission/revision process. The system also has the capability to incorporate sales pipeline reports as well as being able to export various information so we can create our own reports.

This is a great step forward in terms of engineering drawing management and will be critical in the new Sonoco Protective Solutions technology organization as well as the productivity of the engineering group going forward - especially as Oracle gets rolled out a more and more facilities.

Congrats to the PDM Core Team!

Transport Packaging Synergy

We've just passed the one year anniversary mark of Tegrant being acquired by Sonoco, and we have another synergy to report!

Alcatel is one of our customers who gets an Integrated Materials packaging assembly from Putnam, which includes a pallet.  Prior to the acquisition, the Putnam plant was getting the wood pallets from an outside vendor.  So in order to improve efficiencies and streamline vendors, the pallet business was switched over to the Sonoco Transport Packaging group; who specializes transportation solutions and offers a line of Firma Pallets.

For those of you out in the field - keep your eye out for Pallet and TransGuard opportunities!

Please contact Lou Morelli for more details.
