2014 International LNG in BC Conference

The Fort Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce participated in the LNG trade show at the Vancouver conference May 21-23.  It was a successful venture as we were able to make some excellent contacts and were able to showcase Fort Nelson.  In addition we had conversation with a number of educational institutions regarding the need for skilled trades training and the importance of promoting northern communities as places to live, work and raise families.

BC Chamber AGM

We attended the BC Chamber AGM and presented our Rail Policy to the caucus.  The policy was adopted and will form part of the BC Chamber's 2014 policies which guide the BC Chamber in their work with the provincial government.  We will be presenting the policy to the Canadian Chamber as well to hopefully gain support on a federal level.

Proposed Northern Rockies Community Health Centre

The NRRM has proposed entering into a partnership agreement to build a Community Health Centre.

Regional Council determined the Alternate Approval Process be used to seek the electorates permission.  We have had some questions regarding this process.

If at least 10 per cent of the estimated number of electors oppose the project, it must be taken to a formal referendum vote before it can be adopted. However, in that case Regional Council has two options: to continue to a referendum seeking approval or to accept the vote and not proceed with the project.

The Chamber of Commerce is an advocate of the democratic process and we encourage everyone to ensure they are informed about the project and vote according to their personal beliefs.  See the links below for further information.  Deadline to respond is June 4, 2014.
