 New Canadians/New Employees

Immigrant workers already living in Canada could provide another labour source for NE BC. Ms. Materi will discuss how businesses can source new Canadians and how to develop a method to evaluate competency.

A more in depth workshop will also be held for HR personnel and others involved in hiring and supervising employees.  This workshop will provide frontline personnel with methods to determine competency, develop job descriptions and work with new Canadians to ensure a successful fit with your company and business needs.

MMBC - Ministry of Environment Recycling Legislation

Some members have recently been contacted by MMBC advising them they need to sign a letter of intent to join and provide information on how much packaging they put into the marketplace, MMBC may tell you that your business is noncompliant and may be subject to hefty fines.

The Fort Nelson Chamber has been working with the BC Chamber on this issue & the BC Chamber has been meeting with the Ministry of Environment and MMBC to communicate our concerns.  There have been no fines levied and the BC Chamber continues to work with the Minister.  I expect the BC Chamber to provide an update as soon as they are able.  Click here to see comments from the BC Chamber.

While we are waiting for more definitive answers please contact Bev Vandersteen at the Chamber office if you have questions or concerns.
