This issue of the College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate News highlights research and study abroad opportunities.
Undergraduate research and study abroad can be an important part of your Ohio State experience.  Below is information about resources to help you get started and funding to help with related costs.
How to Select A Study Abroad Program
Attend a Getting Started session and learn how to select a study abroad program that is the best fit for you, how to finance your program, how to navigate the application process and other valuable resources.  Dates, times and location are listed here.

Study Abroad - Over 100 Programs to Choose From!
The Office of International Affairs provides a searchable data base to help you identify program options.  You may search over 100 programs by country, language, subject and more.  Once you've attended a Getting Started session, you're ready to begin searching for a program.

May Study Abroad Program Application Deadlines Extended
The Office of International Affairs has extended the application deadline for virtually all May programs from January 4 to January 15.  Please note that May programs with application deadlines that have already passed are not affected by this deadline extension.  For a list of study abroad programs occurring in May, visit the OIA online search engine and select May session as the term.
Summer 2016 Tuition Credit
As in previous years, Ohio State will provide a tuition credit for up to three credit hours of coursework for the first 4-week session for qualifying students. All other sessions will be full tuition for Summer Term 2016.  This tuition credit will again be available to students who are enrolled full-time (12 credits for undergraduate students) during spring semester, and who are not graduating (with the exception of students earning an associate degree, students in a dual-degree program and students enrolled in multiple-degree programs).  More info.
Get a Passport
Having a passport already in hand will facilitate studies abroad, broaden your worldview and open doors to countless international opportunities.  Learn how to apply for your passport here.
Study Abroad Funding for Arts and Sciences Majors 
Keith and Linda Monda International Experience Scholarships support students who would not normally be able to afford to study abroad.  All majors in arts and sciences are eligible.
Humanities Scholarships are open to students with a major in the humanities.  See fund specifics for additional criteria.
International Study Abroad Fund supports students who have a major in international studies.
The Roth Family Endowment supports students who are active in the Diversity Services Office Pass or Pass Beyond Programs.

January 15 at 4 p.m. - Application Deadline
Travel Funds for Majors in the Arts
Fergus Awards Margaret Noell Kindberg Memorial Fund for the Arts supports travel opportunities for students in the arts.

William and Dolly (Ardath) Saxbe Endowed Fund for the Arts supports students with a declared major in an arts discipline who will travel to perform, create, present, conduct research, or conduct creative scholarship in the arts.
Application deadline is February 8 by 5 p.m.

Scholarships for Study at Hebrew University and at Vilnius University
Up to $5,000 is available for study at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.  
Up to $3,000 is available per student (funding available for two students) to attend the four-week summer program at the Vilnius Yiddish Summer Institute in Lithuania.  Study Yiddish language and culture in a culturally rich city that was once nicknamed "the Jerusalem of Lithuania."  More information.

How to Get Involved in Research
The Undergraduate Research Office offers many resources to help you get involved in research or begin your own research project.  Start by attending an Information Session where you will learn how to develop a research topic, find a research mentor and explore resources.

Research Scholar Awards
Research Scholar Awards are for first-time researchers who are interested in pursuing a faculty-supervised research or creative activity and have not already received $1,000 or more of funding from any other source.  Students may apply for up to $1,000.  Applications are accepted year-round on or before the first of each month. More info.
Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Scholarships
Denman Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Scholarships support students who have attained junior standing and meet one of the following criteria: are a potential candidate for graduation with research distinction or with honors research distinction or present other evidence of work on a significant research project.  Applicants must have a faculty sponsor.  More info.

Arts Undergraduate Research Scholarships
Scholarships support students who are pursuing a degree in the arts and will be working on a creative or research project by autumn semester of the last year of their major program.

Arts and Humanities Undergraduate Research Small Grants are offered twice a year on a competitive basis to majors in the arts and in the humanities.  More info.

Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Fund
The Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment fund is designed to enhance opportunities for undergraduate students in the arts and humanities to peruse and promote significant accomplishments in their fields of study.  More info.

SBS Undergraduate Research Grants
Student with skulls Social and Behavioral Sciences Undergraduate Research Grants support students with a declared major in social and behavioral sciences and whose research projects involve extraordinary costs.  More info.

International Research Grants for Undergraduates in Arts and Sciences
International Research Grants support arts and sciences students who will engage in research in international venues along with their faculty mentors.  More info.

Kathryn Sullivan Scholarship
Kathryn Sullivan - 2 The Kathryn Sullivan Scholarship supports undergraduate arts and sciences students with a preference for junior or senior women who are majoring or minoring in the sciences, who have a passion for exploration and/or aerospace, and who are in good academic standing.  This scholarship supports undergraduate research, field work, or attendance/presentation at a conference.  More info.

Summer Research Funding
The Undergraduate Research Office, the Office of International Affairs, University Libraries and the College of Arts and Sciences (Division of Natural and Mathematical Sciences) offer a joint application for four summer research funding opportunities.
URO Summer Research Fellowships support independent research conducted with a faculty member.  All majors.  Additional awards earmarked for psychology and economics majors.
Holbrook Research Abroad Fellowships support independent research abroad with the guidance of a faculty member.  All majors.
Mayers Summer Research Scholarships provide students pursuing designated majors in the natural and mathematical sciences the opportunity to significantly enhance the quality of their research and thesis projects.
Undergraduate Library Research Fellowships provide an opportunity to see how scholarship is communicated and disseminated through work in libraries.  All majors.
