Journalists are expert communicators, reporting about important events, business conditions, social problems, and the latest developments in politics, arts, science, sports and every other area of human endeavor. As communication outlets proliferate, journalists adapt to the rapidly changing media landscape. Journalists work for a wide variety of organizations producing traditional printed and broadcast media as well as online publications using text, photos, graphics, video and data. Students benefit from our location in Ohio's largest city and state capital, where they complete high quality internships. Student journalists practice multimedia reporting by working at The Lantern Media Group, which includes The Lantern and Lantern TV.  Read more.
Career Corner - Prepare for Summer Employment and Internships Now!
Summer is a great time to participate in an internship or another kind of resume-building experience, Now is a prime time to step up your search for such opportunities.  You've likely heard about the January 26th Summer Internship & Opportunity Fair, and maybe you are submitting applications via FutureLink and circulating your resume via networking (we hope you are!).  Another key step is to polish your interviewing skills.  Consider the common interview question, "What are your strengths?"  If your stock response is brief like, "It's easy for me to maintain a positive attitude." you need to know that most recruiters would grade that response with a C or even a D!  Maintaining a positive attitude is valued in all work settings, but employers expect more detailed interview responses.  Responses that provide specific accounts of HOW you have developed skills that relate to a position will be graded higher.  ASC Career Services can help you take your interview skills to the next level. Obtain coaching during a mock interview and access "how to" documents and videos here.
Summer Internship & Opportunity Fair - Tuesday, January 26 from 1 - 6 p.m. in the Ohio Union.
