Major Highlight - Economics
|
When do new companies start up? Why is unemployment so high? What determines interest rates or inflation or stock prices? Economics answers questions like these. But economics is far broader. There are classes on when and why people decide to get married and have children, underground economies, and the economics of sports. Bottom line: Economics is the study of how individuals, businesses, and governments make decisions and how the market mediates those decisions across a wide range of domains.
One of the best things about economics is that the demand for majors is strong. Economics is great preparation for graduate school, whether you're leaning toward business, law, public policy, or going on to become an economist yourself! Read more about economics majors and minors. For more information, email an advisor: Jocelyn Nevel or Jameson Gower. |

Student Research Profile - Cosmic Voids
|
Having already conducted research on planetary and stellar evolution, Paul Zivick continued to pursue his interest in research by applying to the Department of Astronomy's Summer Undergraduate Research Program. This time his topic focused on observable characteristics of cosmic voids. The experience presented an opportunity to spend a week at his mentor's home institution, the Paris Institute of Astrophysics, and to present at a weeklong conference in Estonia. Not only did his research open doors for travel, but also provided an opportunity to meet and talk with researchers who held different perspectives. Paul is pursuing a major in astronomy and astrophysics, as well as a second major in physics. Read more here. Learn more about research by contacting the Undergraduate Research Office. |
