Research and Study Abroad Funding


Greetings!
Undergraduate research and study abroad can be an important part of your OSU experience.  This special edition of the ASC newsletter focuses on resources to help you get started with both of these opportunities and funding to help with related costs.
How To Start A Research Project
The Undergraduate Research Office offers many resources to help you begin a research project.  Start by attending an Information Session where you will learn how to develop a research topic, find a research mentor, and explore resources.  Dates and times.
Undergraduate Research Scholarships
Denman
Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Scholarships support students who have attained junior standing and meet one of the following criteria: be a potential candidate for graduation with (honors) research distinction, or present other evidence of work on a significant research project.  Applicants are required to have a faculty sponsor.  More info.

Arts Research Scholarships
Arts Undergraduate Research Scholarships support students who are pursuing a degree in the arts and will be working on a creative or research project by autumn semester of the last year of their major program.  More info.

Arts & Humanities Research Small Grants
Arts and Humanities Undergraduate Research Small Grants are offered on a competitive basis to majors in the arts and in the humanities.  More info.

Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Fund
The Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment fund is designed to enhance opportunities for undergraduate students in the arts and humanities to pursue and promote significant accomplishments in their fields of study.  More info.

SBS Undergraduate Research Grants
Student with skulls Social and Behavioral Sciences Undergraduate Research Grants support students who have a declared major in the social and behavioral sciences and whose research projects involve extraordinary costs.  More info.

ASC International Research Grants
International Research Grants support arts and sciences students who will engage in research in international venues along with their faculty mentors.  More info.

Kathryn Sullivan Scholarship
Kathryn Sullivan - 2 The Kathryn Sullivan Scholarship supports undergraduate arts and sciences students with a preference for junior or senior women who are majoring or minoring in the sciences, who have a passion for exploration and/or aerospace, and who are in good academic standing.  Supports undergraduate research, field work, or attendance/presentation at a conference.  More info.

H. Dean and Susan Regis Gibson Award
The Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Brain Imaging (CCBBI) H. Dean and Susan Regis Gibson Research Award for graduate and undergraduate students with particular attention but not limited to female students interested in conducting brain imaging research in the Center.  More info.

Summer Research Information Programs
The Secrets of Summer Research:
Hear from student panelists about their experiences and get tips to develop your own summer research.
Tuesday, January 14 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in 150 Cunz Hall
OSU Summer Research Fair:
Talk with OSU representatives about summer research programs and funding.  Learn about opportunities to fund an existing proposal, or about participation in a sponsored research program. List of OSU representatives here.
Wednesday, January 15 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. 165 Thompson Library
Summer Research Proposal Peer-to-Peer Help Sessions:
If you are applying for a joint URO/Mayers/Holbrook/Honors Summer Research Fellowship, these sessions offer an opportunity for you to discuss your research proposal and receive feedback.
January 16, 22 & 28 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at URO Offices 53 W. 11th
DAAD RISE Information Session:
RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) offers undergraduate students in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, and engineering the opportunity to conduct research at institutions throughout Germany.  More info here.

Summer Research Funding
Internship - EPA
The following awards of $3,500 support full time research over ten weeks during summer 2014:
Mayers Summer Research Scholarships provide funding for natural and mathematical sciences majors.
URO Summer Research Fellowships support independent research projects conducted with a faculty member.  All majors.
Summer Honors Research Scholarships support candidates for graduation "with Honors Research Distinction."  All majors.
Holbrook Research Abroad Fellowships support independent research abroad with an OSU faculty member.  All majors.
Apply for all four funds via one application.  More info.

How To Select A Study Abroad Program
London - Global May Attend a Getting Started session and learn how to select a study abroad program that is the best fit for you, how to finance your program, how to navigate the application process, and other valuable resources.

Study Abroad Funding for ASC Majors
Keith & Linda Monda International Experience Scholarships are need-based scholarships that support students who would not normally be able to afford an international experience.  Open to all majors in the arts and sciences.
Humanities Scholarships are open to students with a major in the humanities.  See specific fund listing for additional criteria.
The Roth Family Endowment supports students who are active in the Diversity Services Office Pass or Pass Beyond Programs.

Travel Funds for Majors In the Arts
Fergus Awards Margaret Noell Kindberg Memorial Fund for the Arts supports travel opportunities for students in the arts.

William and Dolly (Ardath) Saxbe Endowed Fund for the Arts supports students with a declared major in an arts discipline who will travel to perform, create, present, conduct research, or conduct creative scholarship in the arts.
