Research and Study Abroad Funding

Greetings!
This special edition of the ASC undergraduate newsletter focuses on research and study abroad funding.  Taking part in either or both can be an important part of your experience while at OSU.  Admittedly, each can come with some expense, so we have provided information below on scholarships that can help with those costs.  In addition to the funds listed below, some departments may also offer scholarships and/or grants.  Students are encouraged to contact their department(s) for additional information.
How To Start A Research Project
The Undergraduate Research Office offers many resources to help you begin a research project.  Start by attending an Information Session where you will learn how to develop a research topic, find a research mentor, and explore resources.

Undergraduate Research Scholarships
      & International Research Grants

Internship - EPA Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Scholarships support students who have attained junior standing and are a potential candidate for graduation with research distinction or present other evidence of work on a significant research project.  Applicants are required to have a faculty sponsor.
International Research Grants for Undergraduates in Arts and Sciences support students who engage in research in international venues with a faculty mentor.  Students and/or faculty may apply.
These funds are administered by the Arts and Sciences Honors Program.  Apply for one or both funds via one application.

SBS Undergraduate Research Grants
Student with skullsThese research grants support students who have a declared major in the social and behavioral sciences and whose research projects involve extraordinary costs.  Online application.
February 8 - Application deadline.
Arts and Humanities Research Funds
Arts and Humanities Undergraduate Research Small Grants are offered on a competitive basis to majors in the arts and in the humanities.  March 22 - Application deadline.
The Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Fund is designed to enhance opportunities for undergraduate students in the arts and humanities to pursue and promote significant accomplishments in their field.  March 22 - Application deadline.
Arts Undergraduate Research Scholarships support students who are pursuing a degree in the arts and will be working on a creative or research project by Autumn semester of the last year of their major program.  March 29 - Application deadline.

Kathryn Sullivan Scholarship
Kathryn Sullivan - 2 Supports undergraduate Arts and Sciences students with a preference for junior or senior women who are majoring or minoring in the sciences, who have a passion for exploration and/or aerospace, and who are in good academic standing.    Supports undergraduate research, field work, or attendance/presentation at a conference.

Summer Research Funding
Mayers Summer Research Scholarships provide funding for natural and mathematical sciences majors.
URO Summer Research Fellowships support independent research projects conducted with an OSU faculty member.
Summer Honors Research Scholarships provide candidates for graduation "with Honors Research Distinction" the opportunity to enhance the quality of their honors research and thesis projects.
Holbrook Research Abroad Fellowships support independent research abroad with the guidance of an OSU faculty member.
These four funds may be applied for via one application.

Summer Research Fair
Interested in summer undergraduate research through Ohio State?  Come talk with representatives from OSU summer research programs.  Learn about their research programs and summer funding available at OSU.  Students from all majors, ranks, and levels of research experience (from none to experienced) are encouraged to attend.  Summer Research Fair.
January 16 from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. in Room 165, Thompson Library.

How To Select A Study Abroad Program
The Office of International Affairs offers many resources to help you explore study abroad programs.  Begin by attending a Getting Started session where you will learn how to select a study abroad program that is the best fit for you, how to finance your program, how to navigate the application process, and other valuable resources.  Session dates and times.
Study Abroad Funding for All ASC Majors
Gateway - Student Trip To China Undergraduate International Experience Grants are open to students with a declared major in the arts and sciences.  Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by Pell grant eligibility.
Keith and Linda Monda International Experience Scholarships  are need-based scholarships open to students who have not previously participated in a study abroad program.  These scholarships support students who would not normally be able to afford an international experience.
The Roth Family Endowment supports students who are active in the Diversity Services Office Pass or Pass Beyond Programs.
Humanities Scholarships are open to students with a major in the humanities.  More information on humanities funds.

Travel Funds for Majors in the Arts
The Margaret Noell Kindberg Memorial Fund for the Arts supports travel opportunities for student in the artsApplication.
The William and Dolly (Ardath) Saxbe Endowed Fund for the Arts supports students with a declared major in an arts discipline who will travel to perform, create, present, conduct research , or conduct creative scholarship in the artsApplication.
March 29 - Application deadline for both funds
