EARLY DAYS OF TOOLS

Many professions in today's society require a variety of tools to complete one simple task. On occasion, different tools are required to complete a single step of a process.

In the early days, a craftsman's tools were his main means of earning a living. His tools were often a huge investment of time and money.

Often, the craftsman would make his own tools or purchase them from specialized manufacturers and suppliers. The cost of a fully equipped tool chest in 1797 was 15.52p (approximately US$ 26.35 today) or about a year's wage for a skilled craftsman.

Today, most people have the tools they need to complete a task on hand in their garage or shed. Otherwise, they drive to their local hardware store for the tools required to complete the job.
