Hey Crew,

This week's contents:

Info on ESP RAW DVD (volume 1612). Pivot Punches, Duellist Jabs, Clutch Knee Taps, Cartwheel Reverse Levers, Duct-tape Escapes and much more fun. Read the next block for details.

This week's article is a glimpse into just one of the weekly Combat Drill Schedules we use for the RAW Crew & Vale Alliance. Viking Sprints, "Sloppy" Boxing, Gladiator-inspired weapons drills and more.

And this week's Special is a deal on our just released Paladin DVD The Submission Prism, see the last block for details.

This week's Video Clip has Justin Reed assisting me in showing that the body does the work in the Double-Wristlock, not the arms. Thanks Justin of Team 'Ustin Sandwich!

The Pivot Punch, Duct-Tape Escapes, & The Clutch Knee-Tap

Crew this RAW is a three-fer!

First-We cover the shady quasi-legal in the old days (very legal for today's MMA) Pivot Punch.
  • The included syllabus will contain an advance chapter from our book on historical boxing so you can read all about who used it, when, where, and how as well as follow the account of how one of the best champs in boxing history was poleaxed with this tactic.
  • Then we'll cover how-tos to fire the Pivot Punch, and 4 Waysto set it up.
  • Among those 4-ways is the little used "Duellist Jab" that brings the feet into proper alignment.
  • We'll also cover the Step-Away. Failure add this to the Pivot and ye may find your good self clocked.
Second-I have been introduced to 5 ways to escape from duct-tape. All are fine but only 1 has stood up to drill conditions 100% of the time. We'll cover that Numero Uno tactic plus address how to adjust it for seated and supine hostage situations.

Third-One of the easiest take-downs from the clinch (both easiest to learn and easiest on energy expenditure) is the Stretch Knee-Tapand yet it is seldom used. Why? There is a tendency to "leave the limb behind." To correct this and get it back into your arsenal we will adjust it into a Clutch Knee-Tap. To do that we will:
  • Address the four elements to keep that limb: The Bite, The Plaster, The Stretch, and The Dip. [You will lose friends over The Bite but it will do the job.]
  • We'll cover how to hit this off of a static clinch, out of the pummel turn-over, and off of a cage-drive. Mighty useful indeed.
  • Next we'll hit 5 follow-ups for once your opponent has met the ground with hard intentions.

This volume (as with all volumes of RAW) comes with a printed syllabus for inclusion in your training notebook, + a free chapter from our not-yet-released book on historical boxing.

ESP RAW 162 can be had this month for $32 (S & H included--Domestic & International) at the end of the month the price goes to $42 Domestic/$52 International. [Of course, it's only $26.50 for the RAW Crew.]

A Peek Inside the
RAW Crew World

Combat Drills of the Week

This week's theme: Make Everything Harder

Warrior cultures past and present trained themselves via hard, hard work. The Roman doctores built strong gladiators and gladiatrix by providing them with training weapons and shields that were at least twice as heavy as what would actually be used.
 In that martial spirit...

Choose as many of the following as moves you...

Boxing
5 3m rnds banging the bag HARD but...use a heavier weight glove. If you're an 8 oz.-er, consider 16 oz. If you are already using 16's consider adding wrist-weights or going "sloppy."

To go "sloppy" grab an old pair of 16's that are almost ready for the trash can-soak them in a bucket of water and then go to work.

Note: There will be mopping up to be done, so keep that in mind.

Wrestling
Strap on a weight vest and work shooting, clinching, and even groundwork with this addition. Do it all week, this week that vest and your wrestling practice go fist in glove.

Real World Fight
Heavy-Blade. Most of us have beautifully light tactical folders, this week let's grab a piece of pipe that doubles, triples, or even more the weight of your carry. Put this stand-in thru the paces all this week.

Real World Flight

I provide 2 Options

Weight Vest Hill Sprints-Strap on that vest and mark off 100 yards of uphill hell. KILL IT!! Your rest is the walk/stumble down.
 X's 10
Hit this at least twice this week.

Or...

Viking Sprints- According to some sources this was a part of Viking training, to improve boarding and/or landing from ship assault speed.

If you have option of shoreline. Wade in knee-deep then keeping parallel to the shore and never less than knee-deep sprint 100 yards. Your rest is your slog back-stay in the depth crew.
 X's 10. Hell x's 20. RRRROOOAAARRRR!!!!!

Cognitive Work
Pick one phrase or saying that always motivates you. Pick out one language that you associate with your warrior culture of choice: Japanese, Icelandic, the Latin of the Romans, your call. Translate the phrase into that language and use it as your training mantra for the week.
By all means if you'd like to share your choice and translation with the crew, do so.

"Ne'a matzoca. Ne'a nahro'par'u. Ne'a nah' ratu. Ne'a nahu'u. Ne'a tzar supawait'u. Yukahnibar'u, yun'u mit'u!"

[Language Comanche (no surprise there): "I box, I wrestle, I fight, I have my knife. I am unafraid. I live unconcernedly, I live well!"]

Extra Credit

Pick out one luxury-just one. TV, phone, video games, online time, heat, air-conditioning, hell, something-just pick one that you regularly use...
And for this week, live as if it does not exist.

Want access to this sort of thing each and every day--well consider coming aboard the RAW Crew.
