OK, Crew-I'm (we're) finally ready to discuss some of the details of The Western Warrior Seminar Series.
In a nutshell these are Boot Camps that combine hardcore old school pugilism, grueling takedown and clinch work, wicked ground and pound and devilish bone-snapping jugular squishing submissions. In other words, we'll be boxing and wrestling like the giants of the past.
Add to this mix primitive conditioning that has been used for centuries by some of the most fearsome warrior cultures in the Western World. You know the fun stuff: stone carries, rope climbing, bear crawling, Apache Sprints, Legionnaire Post Work, Knight Vaulting, Strap Runs, and the like- pushing limits, testing limits, breaking limits, and setting new horizons.
Each Boot will exploit the environment of the seminar location for additional conditioning grist for the mill.
At its optimum this series is a tough test of conditioning using our Historical Warrior RECreation method, education for our boxing/wrestling MMA brethren, tests for our Street Combative cadre, with a mix of obstacle course style madness to fill in the Flight aspect of Fight or Flight. Machiavelli advised us to know and exploit our terrain, so let's break that sanitation seal on our sterile training.
Format-wise (and this is loose, as surprises are the watch word) a conditioning challenge at the top of each hour-the remainder of the hour filled with Boxing, the next hourly challenge and then clinch or takedown work, the next hourly challenge then mat work.
Then a 20m break-rinse wash repeat.
These are Team Events. Attendees may come with your team already in place or you will be assigned squads and these squads will "compete" against one another in all aspects. The idea is to create camaraderie, good natured trash talk, foster a no man left behind ethic, and have teams plan/strategize/conspire as they pick or coach members through skills or tests that initially may be outside of their usual comfort zone-but well within horizons.
All tasks will be scalable to the individual-with strong team members eating slack for those a bit gassed at the time-Hell, we all get gassed, and take the occasional knee-it's the getting back up and doing what you can with what you've got left that defines you.
You may encounter Challenges along the lines of "OK, Teams we need these two 100# sandbags on top of that hill and then brought back." We'll leave it to the teams to plan who is doing the lion's share of the carrying, how the relay works in each task. That sort of thing.
This is a tiered-event with 3 Levels of Suck so the Rookies can tiptoe into Level 1 and hard-chargers can opt for more.
We can schedule each of these Tiers separately, but there is an advantage to offering all in a single weekend:
- Level 1-Is all day Saturday.
- Level 2-Is all day Saturday & Sunday.
- Level 3-Is all day Saturday- intermittent sessions throughout Saturday night (yep, at this level you sleep at the gym), and all-day Sunday.
- All Levels could start at the same time and work side-by-side and perhaps the camaraderie built on day one might urge some Level 1 or Level 2's to upgrade to stick with the team.
At the conclusion of the event each Attendee will earn a shirt or medal denoting their accomplishment and be denoted a Bondafide, hard-charging, Western Warrior Badd-Ass. (Notice that's two "D's" in that Badd, that's how badd you're gonna be.)
If the above sounds like fun, you let me know and I'll let you know when we are staging our inaugural event.
Well, Crew-we gonna study at life? We gonna play at life? Or, we wanna get in there and get our hands dirty with it and earn some memories?
