Hey Crew,

It's Friday and time for this week's Legends newsletter;
buncha stuff today...
  1. First--info on this month's RAW BOXING ON THE MOVE PART 2. This 2nd volume of our integrated Focus Mitt System for MMA picks up where 139 left off and adds drills for Hooks, Uppercuts, Elbows, Destructions, and the Takedown & Tactical Get-Up. Details below.
  2. My wife, Kylie Hatmaker's new book SHE'S TOUGH has just been released and we're running a deal on it for the month of June. You'll find an excerpt from it and deal details in the article block.
  3. This week's Video Clip has Coach Josh Cate assisting me in showing how to use a pry ride for your ground and pound. Thanks, Josh!
  4. We have extended our best RAW deal in 2 years for the entire month of June--honestly, there has never been a better time to come aboard. See details at the end of this newsletter in the June Special.
  5. 140 RAWs and counting. Makes it tough to know where to start or plunge in, right? We've just added a RAW Matrix section to the site that separates the RAW material into categories so you can better locate what tickles your combat fancy. You'll find the material broken into 5 categories for easy browsing. You can have a look at the RAW Matrix here: http://extremeselfprotection.com/index.php/raw-matrix

And last, but not least, check out the ESP RAW Subscription service info to your left. You can save yourself some money on this volume of RAW ($5.50 to be exact) and pick up 3 more volumes of RAW absolutely free.

Thanks everyone and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,

Mark Hatmaker

BOXING ON THE MOVE Pt. 2

[Important: This volume assumes that you have drilled and understood RAW 139 as it builds on and blends new drills onto these templates.]

We continue building a progressive, comprehensive alive MMA Focus Mitt Systemwith this volume. Contents include...

  • An overview of the Root Combination.
  • A review of the 4 Compass Points of movement.
  • We then move into how to intelligently integrate Bobbing & Weaving into the drill template.
  • We will use 3 Swing & a Miss Drills to educate proper bobbing & weaving and the natural body shots that these motions (both inside and outside) foster.
  • We then introduce Multiple Cutting the Uppercut Drills that educate both how to defend against the uppercut and the natural counters out of this defense.
  • Next we'll move into Boxing + territory where we work on attacking and defending with a series of boxing & elbow live drills. (You'll need to stay awake on these as these get us into tight territory).
  • We then discuss the only 2 Destructions/Gunting vs. upper body blows that seem feasible in live drilling and offer 4 Boxing + integrated drills to get them up to speed.
  • We then cover the Boxer's Sprawl & Get-Up for fighters who wish to remain on their feet and introduce a drill to make it a natural part of your Focus Mitt work.
  • We then discuss Drill Blending, that is taking the Matrix offered on RAW 139 & 140 and how to shuffle elements to permanently kill gym boredom and to always be sharpening skills in a pragmatic linear manner.

We've been working on this Focus Mitt Matrix for some time and I appreciate all the kind words so far from those who have consumed and used the 1st volume on RAW 139.

By the time you work all of these thru the drills you should be far smoother, far snappier, and most of all in good balance at all times whether throwing or defending against punches, elbows, or takedowns.

This volume (as with all volumes of RAW) comes with a printed syllabus for inclusion in your training notebook.

ESP RAW 140 can be had this month for $32 (S & H included--Domestic & International) at the end of the month the price goes to $42 Domestic/$52 International. [Of course, it's only $26.50 for the RAW Crew.]

The Texas Proverb
Kylie Hatmaker

[The following is an excerpt from SHE'S TOUGH: Extreme Fitness Training for Women. Details on how to buy the book at the end of this block.]

Let's stay hardcore and maintain our all-out assault on the bottomless well of excuses for a few more paragraphs.

First, the Texas Proverb, which was a folk saying among Texas settlers in the early to mid-18th century regarding migration to the newly open Texas Territory:

"Cowards Never Started,

The Weak Never Got Here,

& the Unfit Don't Stay."

That's some strong medicine there. My husband and I were so struck by the grit and determination starkly expressed in those three lines that it is stenciled on a wall in our home so we can ask ourselves each day with whatever we are facing: Are we cowards, weaklings, or unfit? And always the answer is, hopefully, none of the above.

We don't have to be talking about something as daunting as pulling up roots and heading for unknown country full of Comanche, Apache, and Mexican Federales who didn't want us there. We can apply this strong medicine to how we approach our training, or about anything in life that is more than a little tough to get going or stick with.

Here's the deal when confronting the Texas Proverb, be honest with yourself about whatever it is you are applying the proverb to.

If you don't want to put the effort in, admit that to yourself. There's nothing wrong with that. Say I'm comfortable with how I look, how I feel, and never riding a bike up a hill.

I've got no quibble with this kind of personal assessment, it's honest and, as a matter of fact, it is honorable.

This sort of admission is far preferable than any of the countless:

"Oh, I would if my back wasn't so..."

"If I were younger I would..."

"If I had more time I would..."

And on and on and on and on.

Having the guts to say I have no interest in going to Texas (in reality or metaphorically) is simply a statement of preference and has no value judgment attached to it.

But...

Claiming you love Texas and talking about Texas all the time, and reading articles and books (this one, maybe?) about Texas but never going, or perhaps packing to go but stopping short, or getting to Texas and turning around once you realize that it's going to be a little hot, but still talking about Texas as if it is your destination of choice...well, that's just fiction.

Quit telling yourself and your friends and your family Texas tall tales.

Either decide the journey is worth it and go, or Texas ain't in the cards for you, don't be the "Well, I would but..." person.

Now, if you are reading this book, I presume our little metaphorical Texas holds some appeal for you.

And if so, ask yourself those three little questions each day:

Am I a coward?

Am I a weakling?

Am I unfit?

SHE'S TOUGH (168 PAGES) Contents include Motivation, Female Approaches to Extreme Conditioning, Common Concerns & Remedies, Nutrition Facts, Tips on Building a Training Crew, Gear Recommendations per Commitment Level, Complete Exercise Vocabulary, and 3-Full Months of Exercise Menu Programming.

It will retail at $12.95 ($22.95 International) but for the month of June you can pick up an autographed copy for $11 bucks even ($20 International)--that's S&H included.

Some of us are old-enough to remember a series of interactive books where readers were asked to make a decision and then go to a corresponding page to see what sort of mess you got yourself into. You never quite knew where you were going to wind up with these books--pre-video game era, these were a novel idea.

Here's where you come in, if you'd like to host a seminar and save yourself some bucks off of the standard fees in the process--if you've got an Adventure Race in your area, a rock you think I'd like to climb, a river you think I want to raft, a hike you think I just need to take, a desert I've not run on, you get the idea--pitch your adventure and school location. If the adventure appeals and the logistics are right we offer greatly reduced fees to come to your school and play with your crew before we go play at your Adventure Pitch.

BTW--You and your crew are welcome to attend the adventure, as a matter of fact, we'll knock off even more bucks for this sort of hands-on guiding.

So, you got some adrenaline in your neck-of-the-woods and want to train? Feel free to make your pitch and we'll see what happens.
