Pick an Adventure Seminar

Some of us are old-enough to remember a series of interactive books where readers were asked to make a decision and then go to a corresponding page to see what sort of mess you got yourself into. You never quite knew where you were going to wind up with these books--pre-video game era, these were a novel idea.

Here's where you come in, if you'd like to host a seminar and save yourself some bucks off of the standard fees in the process--if you've got an Adventure Race in your area, a rock you think I'd like to climb, a river you think I want to raft, a hike you think I just need to take, a desert I've not run on, you get the idea--pitch your adventure and school location. If the adventure appeals and the logistics are right we offer greatly reduced fees to come to your school and play with your crew before we go play at your Adventure Pitch.

BTW--You and your crew are welcome to attend the adventure, as a matter of fact, we'll knock off even more bucks for this sort of hands-on guiding.

So, you got some adrenaline in your neck-of-the-woods and want to train? Feel free to make your pitch and we'll see what happens.

Hey Crew,

It's Friday and time for this week's Legends newsletter, this week's contents include...
  1. The rundown on ESP RAW 125 the third volume in our Combination Man Curriculum--this one is all about the subs.
  2. Today's article-block gives you the skinny on some revisions to our inTENS  Conditioning Service.
  3. Our Video Clip of the Week demos an exercise to help you build some ballistic pop both for punching and being aggressive in the clinch.
  4. Check out our March Special at the end of this newsletter for a few ways to save yourself some dough on products.

And last, but not least, check out the ESP RAW Subscription service info to your left. You can save yourself some money on this volume of RAW ($5.50 to be exact) and pick up 3 more volumes of RAW absolutely free.

Thanks everyone and have a great week!
Sincerely,

ESP RAW 125: Top Arm Isolation: The Essentials

Here we are at volume 3 in the Combination Man Curriculum (CMC) and for those who have wondered where have all the submissions gone? Well, here's your answer--right here.

With that said this volume is all about drilling to create hooking opportunities and then presenting two handfuls of hooks (in order of utility for those results chasers out there).

Contents include:

  • Exact specifications of the Arm Crowd position--and how to isolate any top-arm opportunity presented whether it be off of a throw, cross-body, or top saddle position transition.
  • We'll drill how to use the body to secure the limb before we use the hands.
  • Once the body is up-to-speed we will use one grip to set up all of the following subs to keep your cognitive load light and efficient.
  • We will also present the Head-On Drill that forces you to not be choosy about your attack. In other words, after you drill for ambidexterity the Head-On Drill will force ambidexterity so you'll be smooth on either side.
  • The Head-On Drill also educates pressure and spin control so we get a nice multi-tasking tool out of this one.
  • Next we hit the bread and butter Double Spinning Double Wrist Lock and how to glide into the hook rather than riding and then tapping--why do two jobs when you can get them both done with one movement?
  • We'll drill instantaneous Keylock transition...
  • We'll provide some concerns about Dorsal Locking and then provide a Head-Scissors tweak that removes those concern...
  • We'll then drill the subtle and seemingly forgotten Pop-Over Hammer-Lock. (It's one of those, "Are you kidding me, that's available from this position?" moves).
  • We'll then drill three varieties of Short-Arm Bars that should provide comfort in over-rotation scenarios.
  • Each tool is presented in isolation for technical perfection and then run through the Head-On Drill so you can adjust for chaos.

This volume, as with all of our RAW material, comes with a printed syllabus for inclusion in your training notebook.

(Hang on to these syllabi because at some point in the Combination Man Curriculum run we will supplement and key these syllabi to a Master Text for easy Drill & Technique search).

ESP RAW 125: can be had this month for only $32 (S & H included--Domestic & International) at the end of the month the price goes to $42 Domestic/$52 International.

inTENS Revision

Mark Hatmaker

inTENS is our stream-lined old school conditioning service that provides Endurance, Metabolic, and Strength workouts designed to up our Western Combat Arts game in minimum time so that we can spend more time drilling and less time preparing to drill.

Don't get me wrong, we've got to put the conditioning time in for as so many wise ones before us have said (Mr. LeBell comes to mind immediately) "Conditioning is the best finishing hold." Or, this boxing gym stand-by "Fights are won in the gym, not in the ring."

inTENS asks you to put your time in we simply reduce that time by using the best current science and  keep the intensity at a white-hot boil.

inTENS WODs follow a rise and fall pattern of short duration sprint intensity workouts through a gradual rise to extended effort over double or triple the time preceding them. These allows us to gear our system to various metabolic challenges.

inTENS provides 6 completely different days of conditioning programing per week + 1 Combat Drill of the Day.

Why only one drill? It's not because I don't want you to do more, it's because when you feel like doing none at least do the prescribed one.

The Combat Drills of the Day (CDD) cover all 6 of what I consider the main aspects of our Western game:

  1. Boxing--Offensive and defensive.
  2. Pugilism--AKA Boxing + where we drill boxing with elbows, knees, hacksaws, chops, butts, and all of the other "dirty" tools of the trade.
  3. Shooting--Offensive and defensive.
  4. Clinch-Work--With a heavy emphasis on clinch control drills and hard drops.
  5. Par Terre--Drills where the mat-work is wrestling focused with subs as the cherry on top.
  6. Hooking--Drills where the subs are the focus and we allow the wrestling to fade into the background.

The Combat Drills of the Day follow chain sequences so that as the end of each month approaches you will have cycled though a logical construction in each of the vital 6 areas.

For 2 years we have offered 2 versions of inTENS--a Standard version was posted for free minus the strength work and Combat Drills of the Day and the Premium version which contained the whole-shebang and was available only for our RAW Crew.

As of today, no more Standard. Only the complete version with all components and this will go only to the RAW Crew. In other words, no more freebies just more content for you RAW Warriors out there.

If becoming a member of the RAW Crew sounds like it might be up your alley check out the ESP RAW Subscriptions in the side-bar.

All you RAW Warriors out there, I've been tweaking the inTENS material even more, you'll see these changes rearing their nasty heads beginning with the April run of inTENS Challenges.

Onward & Upward!
