Dear Parents,

This must be one of the busiest weeks in school I have known but a marvellous week it has been,  with an abundance of activities and learning taking place.
The Harvest Hoedown
Wow! What an energetic and fun filled show. Yesterday, Miss Arber corralled her performers into the Hall for our Harvest Hoedown. Every class was keen to show their fancy foot work, impressing the audience with their timing and flair. Year 6, provided humour in the form of a sketch to find 'The best cowboy in town', who incidentally turned out to be Mrs Lott, and Kindergarten performed Horsey Horsey superbly. A big thank you to Miss Arber for all her organisation.

Art Week
Art week has been a great success with Mrs Ridge inspiring our teaching staff to use A Roman Triumph by Paul Reuben to explore a range of cross curricular activities. Each teacher has developed their own ideas and used them to motivate and encourage the children to create some exciting and remarkable work. In our Friday assembly this morning our children were able to show their wonderful work and explain how and why they produced it.

The Elephant in the Room!
Who isn't mentioning the elephant in the room? Well actually we all are. What a fabulous sculpture!

Friends of Hutton Manor
Christmas cards:  FoHM will be working with the children after half term to make Christmas cards, so please do not buy any off the shelves at half term, wait and stock up on your individually made ones from school.
Operation Christmas Child - FoHM and School Council will be supporting the Operation Christmas Child appeal again this year. It is a fabulous charity that enables our children to pack shoe boxes themselves and send them to children who are in very difficult circumstances. The deadline for returning boxes to school is 15th November. Thank you to FoHM for organising this.
School Council
A big thank you from the School Council for your donations for WaterAid. It was a last minute decision to ask for a donation on Harvest Hoedown day, but we are very grateful, and raised £176.90. Thank you as always for your generosity.
Another note of thanks for your donations to CHESS and the Brentwood Foodbank. They were extremely pleased to receive these and were going to put them to good use.
From Mrs Hobbs
It was with great pride that I attended the ISA East Art Exhibition last Saturday. As always the exhibition demonstrated the many and varied creative skills children of all ages are capable of achieving. Mrs Ridge, Mrs Wilson and I were in no doubt that the judge, artist Issam Kourbaj, was going to have an extremely difficult task when judging the entries in the different categories.
We were all delighted when it was announced that our children had taken 2nd place with their wonderful 3d fish; fortunately Jude was also visiting the exhibition and so was able to get some wonderful compliments on his hard work from Issam.
Well done to everyone who took part and thank you Mrs Ridge for encouraging their participation and for ensuring our children's work was prominently on display.

Pilates with Mrs Bray
On Thursday mornings a small group of Junior children have been joining me for a Pilates session to set them up for the day. We have practised breathing techniques and tried to visualise the parts of our body that are being used in each position. Many of the positions are named after animals, such as the turtle where we imagined our shell protecting us. Some of the positions are done individually, for example downward dog, and others are with a partner - you can see how a downward dog can become a double downward dog. We have also practised breathing like a snake, with lots of hissing as we breathed out, forming shapes like triangles and worked with a partner to be a see-saw. After some quiet breathing and visualising beautiful things like a rainbow at the end of the session the children are ready to face the challenges of the day.

Circuit Training!
Year 6 have been carrying out experiments using circuits this week as part of our electricity unit in Science. We have been finding out whether wire length affects how components in a circuit work.
Science in Half Term
There is an interesting Science in Space evening taking place at the Royal Albert Hall next week on Wednesday 19th October.  Tickets are £12.70.  A chance to see Tim Peake and Tim Kopra talking about their experiences in space.
Cross Country by Mrs Fitch
On Thursday the Cross Country team headed to Highlands Park for their first race of the season.
It was cold and tough!  So well done to everyone for completing the course.
Emily Bromage and Oliver Skelton were our strongest Year 5 competitors coming 64th and 74th respectively while Luke Nash was our first Year 6 home in 44th place.
Our Year 6 Boys were first to agree that we all need to step up our training and aim for some higher placing in the next race!
Running for the Woodlands Team from Hutton Manor were:-
Year 5 Emily Bromage, Maggie McNeilly, Edeie Holmwood-Scripps, Oliver Skelton, Kyle Willsher
Year 6 Luke Nash, Sebastian Concannon, Freddie Abbott, Liam McNeilly, Jansci Motsi
Once again, well done everyone; it takes confidence and strength of character to run in these very competitive races.
