Our week in Mrs Hobbs' absence
Dear Parents,
As Advent is upon us and calendar doors are opened each morning with excitement, the festive spirit has arrived in school. After having a walkabout this week I have been impressed with the amount of effort the staff and children have put in to decorating their classrooms and the school. Here are just a few pictures of a Hutton Manor Christmas time.
CSI Woodlands Mrs Wilson reporting
Last Saturday a band of intrepid forensic scientists from Hutton Manor, namely,  Alyssa, Phoenix, John, George, Edeie, Seni, Mar, Edward, Scarlet, Isabella, Emily, Sonny, Kyle and Sophie, were called over to Great Warley as there had been an unfortunate incident involving an assault on a caretaker called Lenny. They were asked to work alongside children from Great Warley to solve this despicable crime. It was an exhausting day, taking fingerprints and matching footprints. There was also a great deal of detective work to do, which was, I can report, carried out with the utmost professionalism. The findings of our investigation resulted in a trial. Our team became members of the jury, although Edward was an excellent usher and Seni a most impressive judge. Edeie played her part well as one of the defendants, she argued her case well, but unfortunately the jury decided that she had been involved all along! It was a fantastic day, tremendous fun, and inspiring for our young scientists! Well done everyone who attended, excellent teamwork!
Gymnastics Competition Mrs Fitch reporting
The Girls' Gymnastics Team had their first competition on Wednesday and we are delighted to say that after a sparkling performance they are through to the semi-finals!
Congratulations to Brooke Motley, Eva Dryborough, Harriet Redburn and Melek Sahin who, with their friends from Great Warley, competed so well for the Woodlands School Team!
Mrs Raymond and I have been so impressed this year with the enthusiasm and talent shown by so many girls, it was really difficult selecting the few to represent the School! A polished floor routine to music and a vault over a metre high box is the criteria for selection and several girls are reaching this standard. We are looking forward to the semi-finals!
Choir Sing in Billericay  -  Mr O'Keefe reporting
On Saturday afternoon, Mrs Hobbs joined me and the choir when we were invited to sing at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Billericay High Street to celebrate the turning on of the Christmas lights.  They performed three songs on stage to a delighted audience and did themselves and the school proud, singing loudly and confidently with smiles on their faces.  What a wonderful start to the festive season! Well done children.
Christmas Dress Up Day
On Friday 11 December School Council have organised a Christmas Dress up day. It can be as simple or extravagant as you wish, from a Christmas hat to a full Christmas costume, the choice is yours! We would ask for a £2 donation all of which will go to the charity Save The Children.
Tag Rugby
Please note that today, Friday 4 December, will be the last Tag Rugby session before Christmas.
Clubs and a Gentle Reminder
As always, prior to the end of a term, next week will be our last week of clubs. Wraparound will however continue until Tuesday 15 December with Breakfast Club running every day up to the last day of term.
Cookery Club
On Monday the children from Cookery Club had a tasty treat, when not only did they make banana splits with Mr Rains, but they were able to eat them too! Even Mrs Hobbs got to taste one. It certainly was a good session, yum yum!
Morning Drop Off a Polite Reminder
It has been noticed this week that some children are being dropped off without cars being parked first. No cars should be stopping to drop off children in the mornings. Please park your car and walk your child into the playground, using the designated path. It is extremely busy during this period, and our concerns are for the safety of our children. Thank you for your cooperation.
Special Letter
Last week Reception children wrote very important letters to Father Christmas. They went down to Head Office and with the help of Mrs Lines and Mrs Barker were shown how to frank a letter on their special machine. The letters were soon posted in our very special post box and should be finding their way to Santa as we speak!
Young Scientists
Year 5 have been extremely busy in science this week. Joshua demonstrates how you can use the acids in fruit to create a 'battery' to power a small clock.
The Giving Machine
FoHM have requested a reminder in the newsletter about The Giving Machine. It is a registered charity that enables people to generate sales commissions with every online purchase they make. They convert these commissions into free donations for the schools, charities and other community organisations of your choosing. They are supported by a scope of huge companies such as Amazon, John Lewis, eBay, Sanisbury's and Next. Once registered each time purchases are made from one of these companies a donation will be made to one of your chosen charities without any cost to you. Please visit the site and register as this time of year we are all busily shopping online and could be a tremendous help. https://www.thegivingmachine.co.uk/giver/join/
3D Models by 4W
4W have been using Design and Technology skills to create 3D models of the rainforest. Today we painted our clay animals to finish off our efforts. Can you guess what animals we have made?
Golden Book Certificates
Certificates today were awarded to Olivia George, Sachith Abeynayake and Anamaria Moodey at today's Celebration Assembly. Well done children!  Well done Ralph!

Welcome Back
Mrs Hobbs is back with us next week following her inspection duties  and in time to be part of the real start to our Christmas festivities, the children's Christmas productions. The staff and children have been working extremely hard rehearsing lines and songs to make sure that everything runs smoothly 'on the day'. We hope you all enjoy their performances.
In the run up then to a busy week here at School, we wish you a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
