#2 Finding Values That Make Life Sweet

Simply and Beautifully

Unbroken  Woman

#2
August, 2011,
Dedicated Part  II

Greetings!

On our car trip to and from New Hampshire we listened to the book, Unbroken .  I don't think that I could have read the book by myself because of the great suffering, as well as confrontation with evil that you meet throughout so many of the pages .  I felt so very wimpy in comparison to the hero (a true story, a real life hero) and knew that I would just succumb to the sharks rather than be so courageous and fight for life day after day.   Listening to it on CD's together with Bob helped me to persevere through the darkness to the end.  It was well worth it. And hopefully, I am not so wimpy after getting to know Louie!   Another unforgettable book.  That is one thing so nice about seeing virtuous living in others....it takes your wimpiness and makes it less wimpy!  It gives you a certain encouragement to be more noble, courageous, hopeful.

One thing that I couldn't help but reflect on in the book, was the obvious dedication Louie exhibited in preparing to be an Olympic runner and it's correlation to his ability to be so dedicated to

"living" amidst unbearable circumstances.  I am going to try to remember this after I get back to my serious exercise.  Well, my exercise is not really so serious.  After all, how can you call walking and talking with your gal friends, serious?  It is just too much fun to be serious. But, I will remember this as I work the machines at Curves (not as much fun) that my diligence and dedication to being healthy might help me to be dedicated to persevering through life's trials as well.

I wanted to read more about the author herself and found out that she was certainly a woman of great dedication. This book took tremendous research.   My "tendency" would be to skimp...do less rather than more....and then I found out that Laura has cronic fatigue syndrome and didn't allow this to "excuse herself" from telling the story and doing it right!  She didn't give up.  She dedicated herself to the mission.  Mission completed!  A second of two books written and best sellers at that!  I am inspired.  She gives me encouragement to look for ways I can be more dedicated within the limitations of my life.   The book is highlighted under "Simply and Beautifully Woman" because Laura Hillenbrand is helping me get to the simply and beautiful part of being a woman.  So, "Unbroken" is a celebration of gargantuan fortitude, that of both Ms. Hillenbrand (whose prose shatters any hint of her debilitating fatigue) and Mr. Zamperini's."

Dedication We All Recognize

martin luther kingMartin Luther King, Jr.

"All life is interrelated, that somehow we're caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. For some strange reason, I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. You can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality."

From His Last Speech before he was assasinated:

But I'm not concerned about that now

"Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now.

I just want to do God's will.

.

And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord."

Dedicated:  What his dedication meant to so many people!  Was  the price of his dedication  worth it?  What will your dedication mean?  Will it be worth it?  Sometimes we don't know the answer.  That is where faith comes in.  "I just want to do God's will."
