Greetings!

Have you ever wanted your faith in God to really make a difference for yourself and others?  Sure, we all have, at least in our best of moments.  So, for this Lent (in my faith tradition we try to set aside 40 days before Easter to draw closer to God), I have decided to take a personal journey of memorizing some scriptures and reflecting on them a little more deeply... what they have meant to me and what they might mean for others.  I am doing this instead of playing some fun computer games!  I thought you might find these reflections beneficial too.

Psalm 41 vs. 1-3

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Reflection I for Friday

When you come up against a trouble in your life, try repeating over and over again throughout the day and the week and the month... the truth in the Scriptures:

God is MY refuge and strength, a very present help in THIS trouble.   Memorize it.  Repeat it so that it is a very part of your thought life.

Put it to song and it will go with you throughout the day. When you start feeling anxious about an aspect of your trouble, repeat your verse instead of giving into the worry.

What we place into our souls, through prayer, will begin being lived out in our lives. The eyes of our souls will be opened and wisdom will spring forth.  We will get real tangible ideas about what to do with our trouble.  If we follow these thoughts that are coming out of a deep faith good things will start to happen.  Little miracles will meet us on our path.

When we act from our fear of the future, more trouble seems to follow.  When we let the word of God form our subconscious minds, our lives look different.  That is because it truly changes our belief system.  We become people of hope and faith. That is why God gives us His word, so that we can be renewed and happy.  All wisdom and truth comes from Him and it is ours for the believing.

Reflection II for Saturday

Earthquakes, war after war, tumult throughout the world, children being killed right within the "safe place" of the wombs of their mothers, grizzly and random murders, sexual predators, break-ups of marriages, drugs and alcohol destroying lives, children home alone.  Yes.

This is a picture of our day and age.

But in the middle of this same world, we have heroes and heroines who are willing to make God their refuge and their strength, a very present help in trouble.  We find the soldier who throws himself on a grenade to save his buddies;  We find the wife who  knows now that her husband isn't perfect, and is doing all she can to learn what it means to love THIS guy; We find the school teacher who is making a difference for one student and knows that this is worthwhile; We find the group of men meeting for coffee on Saturday mornings, laughing and enjoying one another and figuring out how they can make a big difference in this world; we find authors who are reaching the hearts of men and women and impacting our futures for the good; we find the husband dedicated to providing for his family; we find the grandparent spending time with the grandchildren; we find young people still with ideals and willing to sacrifice to bring them about.

While there is even a seed of love, there is great hope.  May you become an important part of this great hope in your home, in your part of the world. Oh, Happy Lent!

Until Sunday,

Sharon

Look for the Next Scripture on Sunday.

In the meantime, make Psalm 41 a normal response to your every concern.
