New York Times: NYPGA Responds |
In reponse to a recent article in the New York Times, What Pairs Well With a Finger Lakes White? Not Propane, Vintners Say" (news Dec. 25), The Times printed the following response from NYPGA President Rick Cummings(Mulhern Gas of Hudson NY) in The Opinion Pages | Lettersection:
Relying on Propane Gas
JAN. 1, 2015
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/02/opinion/relying-on-propane-gas.html?ref=opinion&_r=0
To the Editor:
Re "What Pairs Well With a Finger Lakes White? Not Propane, Vintners Say" (news article, Dec. 25):
Propane is vital to New York. Nearly 240,000 New Yorkers - a large number of whom live in the Finger Lakes region - rely on propane to heat their homes. Additionally, thousands of farmers across the state, including the vintners your article discusses, use it for crop drying or other purposes.
As your article correctly notes, propane is not produced in New York and has to be imported. This adds cost - and logistical challenges - for the members of the New York Propane Gas Association, which must then be passed on to consumers. Seven of the last 10 winters have seen higher prices caused by supply constraints, which the proposed facility would rectify. Last winter, the average New York propane user paid $410 more to heat his or her home, costing the state $100 million over all.
This is not about being the "gas-storage hub of the Northeast," as one vineyard owner put it; it's about lowering the bills of propane users across New York and New England.
RICK CUMMINGS
President
New York Propane Gas Association
Clifton Park, N.Y., Dec. 29, 2014
A version of this letter appears in print on January 2, 2015, on page A20 of the New York edition with the headline: Relying on Propane Gas. NYPGA thanks Crystal Smith of Strategic Communications for her assistance. Michael Meath, also of Strategic Communications, noted that the Times rejects nearly 90% of all letters they receive, but published the NYPGA response nonetheless. |
HELPING OTHERS - Sunday 1/11/14 in Stephentown NY |
NYPGA member Jack Murdock of NGL Supply Wholesale announced this week that The Beer Diviner Stephentown NY and the Murdock's are hosting a fundraiser on Sunday 1/11/14 in Stephentown NY - for Shelby DeSarno (19) Mt Holyoke class of 18. Shelby is a first year at Mount Holyoke, and a member of the novice crew team, as well as of the orchestra. In the early morning of December 30th, there was a fire in the DeSarno house, destroying the property and leaving three members of the family in critical condition. Shelby and two of her family members still remain in critical condition, and members of her friends and community are trying to raise money to help defray some of their medical bills, and help cover the costs of rebuilding their home.
Jack reports that they are raffling off a carbon monoxide / propane / methane detector ( generously donated by Kimlin Propane Gardiner NY ), Patty Murdock is preparing some light hors d'oeuvres, and Jon Post, master brewer and owner of the Beer Diviner will have some divine beers to try and purchase. Please come if you can and help us help Shelby and her family.
Jack sends thanks and may be contacted at : Jack Murdock - jack.murdock@nglep.com, Propane Marketing Representative, NGL Supply Wholesale 518-733-0101 (office), 518-588-2569 (mobile ), 518-514-1458 ( fax ) |
50% it is |
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced that the trucking industry will have to continue randomly testing at least 50% of its drivers for drug and alcohol use during 2015.
FMCSA made the announcement Dec. 31, saying that its decision to keep the 50% requirement was based on "the data from motor carrier industry-controlled substance lab test results, the 2012 drug and alcohol testing survey and additional investigations."
The trucking industry was hoping the agency would lower the mandatory 50% to 25%, as is the case for other transportation sectors, such as marine and public transit. See the full Transport Topics article at:

AutoGas |
In August 2014, the NYPGA Autogas Committee launched a program to rebate nine vehicle propane purchases/conversions at $5,000 per vehicle. Budgeted funding was exhausted by October 1 at which time additional funding was requested and received for another eight vehicle rebates at $5,000 each. Funding for the eight additional requests has been spent.
Based on the success of the 2014 program, the Autogas Committee has received funding to offer an additional fifteen vehicle rebates at $4,000 in 2015. The incentive rebate amount has decreased to allow for a greater number rebates to be given.
Should you have questions regarding the program, please contact David Williams, Autogas Committee Chair, dwilliams@noco.com or the NYPGA office.
Thanks to all for their interest in this very successful NYPGA program. |

Newsletter List - Verification Requests Going Out
|
As published earlier this month, NYPGA has begun to send confirmation requests to everyone that is on the weekly newsletter list. The purpose will be to:
- verify that we have complete information on all NYPGA contacts
- ensure that all those on the newsletter list are aware of the new weekly publication
NYPGA sends newsletters like this to over 500 member contacts using Constant Contact. Constant Contact tells NYPGA how many recipients are opening the newsletters, how many addresses are valid, how many are not valid, and so on. The verification letters will be sent using email, fax or mail, depending on the information NYPGA has on file for the contact, and the letters will ask that any amendments to the contact's information be either emailed, faxed or mailed back to NYPGA so the association can update the contact's information.
If by some chance you are reading this because you received it from someone other than NYPGA, please send your complete contact information to NYPGA and we will make sure you are added to the list to receive future publications directly.
BOUNCED: We have a VERY short list of email addresses that are reported to us as not getting to the intended recipients. We work to cure these one at a time, and attempt to re-send them from another email address, or fax a pdf version of the newsletter when we can.
