NYPGA Strategic Planning Moves Forward
|
 | Barbara Roach |
Most readers are aware that Barbara Roach, who has served as NYPGA's Executive Director since 2005, will be modifying her role and responsibilities at NYPGA starting January 1, 2015.
Effective January 1, Barb will reduce the time she allocates to NYPGA's success to part-time, and a proportional amount of her duties will then be assumed by new NYPGA Executive Director & Technical Director Shane Sweet.
 | Shane Sweet |
At press time, Barb intends to work with NYPGA through 2015.
NYPGA's contact information remains unchanged, though NYPGA now has domain email addresses for both Shane and Barb, as noted below. The nypga@nycap.rr.com address remains in use as well.
"NYPGA has been fortunate to have Barb for as many years and we are grateful for her service to NYPGA and the industry" , said NYPGA President Rick Cummings of Mulhern Gas in Hudson, NY. "We are pleased with the arrangement beginning January 1, 2015 and thank Barb for her efforts, particularly during 2014."

Protecting Infrastructure
|
NYPGA and its public and media relations firm Strategic Communications are drafting a news release concerning the need to protect propane tanks, meters, piping and other critical propane infrastructure during the winter months.
At issue is damage to propane tanks and connected equipment with sometime serious consequences, particularly when snow is piled high and tanks, meters, tank collars, and standpipes that are out of sight due to snow.
The statement, in the form of a news release, will be distributed in advance of heavy snow events, and will aim to make the public aware of the need to avoid damage to propane related equipment.
NYPGA thanks Mike Taylor of NYPGA member propane retailer CES, who shared with NYPGA numerous photos of propane equipment that had been damaged or destroyed by accident, for his assistance with this effort.

34 Hour Restart Rule
|
This is another reminder of a new law enacted by Congress and signed by the President that suspends enforcement of the CDL driver 34-hour restart regulations adopted in July 2013.
FMCSA is now prevented from enforcing the new 34-hour restart provision until September 30, 2015 or until the FMCSA conducts a new field study on driver fatigue. Now, drivers must now use the more flexible 34-hour restart provisions that were in place prior to July 1, 2013. The action by Congress is the result of what it said was FMCSA's failure to gather sufficient data, via real-life studies of driver fatigue, to support the new 34-hour restart provision.
The result is forcing a return to the "old" restart provisions from prior to July 1, 2013.
NYPGA members can expect further guidance in future issues of NYPGA Updates.

Newsletter List - Verification Requests Going Out
|
As published earlier this month, NYPGA has begun to send confirmation requests to everyone that is on the weekly newsletter list. The purpose will be to:
- verify that we have complete information on all NYPGA contacts
- ensure that all those on the newsletter list are aware of the new weekly publication
NYPGA sends newsletters like this to over 500 member contacts using Constant Contact. Constant Contact tells NYPGA how many recipients are opening the newsletters, how many addresses are valid, how many are not valid, and so on. The verification letters will be sent using email, fax or mail, depending on the information NYPGA has on file for the contact, and the letters will ask that any amendments to the contact's information be either emailed, faxed or mailed back to NYPGA so the association can update the contact's information.
If by some chance you are reading this because you received it from someone other than NYPGA, please send your complete contact information to NYPGA and we will make sure you are added to the list to receive future publications directly.
BOUNCED: We have a VERY short list of email addresses that are reported to us as not getting to the intended recipients. We work to cure these one at a time, and attempt to re-send them from another email address, or fax a pdf version of the newsletter when we can.
