The Slash Report  ~  March 2015

Michael's Memo
Lent is the season during the year when Christians focus on prayer and simple living in order to grow closer to God. Our worship focus during these days of preparation for Easter will be based on the theme RISE!

Here at Slash Church we are going to nudge you a little bit to help you make some changes in your life during lent.  Consider this, it is easy to sit back and wait for God to make things happen for us in our lives. We pray for God to help us and then we wait.  Is that really what we should be doing?

During lent we are going to pray but we are not going to wait around anymore for things to happen. We will take control of our lives and our faith journeys.  We need to RISE and refuse to allow things to remain as they are in our lives. No longer can we settle for anything less than what God intended for each of us. RISE from mediocrity, RISE from past hurts, RISE from places and situations where you are just going through the motions, and declare that there has to be more than this to your life! It's time for our families, our relationships, our ministry and every area of our lives to rise from the ashes and live as God intended! RISE!

En Agape',
Rev. Michael Weeks

Week of Compassion Offering -

$83.90 was collected by the children from Hot Chocolate dontations

$1487.64 Total donation including hot chocolate

We want to thank every person who gave to our Week of Compassion Offering. Your offering helps to build schools, medical facilities and homes in areas hit by devastation. Your offering provides food to the hungry and clean water for drinking, as well as helps to provide the necessary resources to strengthen the communities to be able to provide for themselves. You rose to the challenge of putting your compassion into action.

The children's hot chocolate was a way in which our young people lifted up the Week of Compassion offering and we are so grateful that you supported them. Thank you for your caring hearts!

Easter Offering - March 29th and April 5th

Partners in Mission . . . From Your Doorsteps

The Easter Offering supports the General Ministries of the church and serves across the U.S. and Canada and around the world. General Ministries are partners in ministry serving through far-reaching and unique organizations.  It's simple, really. Your gifts to the Easter offering travel as far and fast as a tweet. We are partners in mission from your doorsteps to the ends of the earth - around the corner, around the globe and around the Church.   Won't you give so that we can reach around the world to tell of God's love for us all.

Join us Sunday, March 15, 5-7 pm

The New Testament word usually translated "serve" is the Greek word diakoneo. It refers to an attendant, a waiter, or one who ministers to another. From this word we get the English words "deacon and diaconate." Just as they did in New Testament times, our diaconate serve in very important roles at Slash.  We would like to recognize their ministry among us with this special meal.

The Elders of Slash are inviting all deacons to join them March 15 for a time of fellowship, food, and learning during Lent.  Please make time in your schedules to join us as we grow closer to one another as leaders of Slash Church.

Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Sunrise Service:

The Clay Springs Ruritan Club will sponsor its annual community wide Easter Egg Hunt at Slash Christian Church on Saturday, April 4th  at 10:00 AM.

Children 1 - 12 years of age are welcome to bring their many friends to join in the fun and search for those "special eggs"!  We hope to see a BIG crowd!

On Sunday morning, April 5th, following the Easter Sunrise Service at Slash at 6:30 am, breakfast will be served by the Ruritan Club.  Please plan to join us.

Christian Hospital Mungeli India
Slash Mission Partner
Receives USAID Grant

Members of Slash were blessed to meet Dr. Anil Henry, the director of the Christian Hospital Mungeli at a Tuesday night event last year here at the church. We will welcome him back to Slash on Sunday morning May 10. He is a wonderful leader and spokesperson for Global Ministries.  God is doing powerful work through our gifts to the ministry at this hospital.

Dr. Henry and his wife, Dr. Teresa Henry have grown the hospital from 4 patients to a 120 bed facility with modern medical equipment. The hospital sponsors the only English Medium School in the area and has grown the school enrollment from 80 to 800, including 6 school buses which bring children from the outlying villages to a school where their educational opportunities will open doors for a lifetime. The hospital has opened a School of Nursing limited to students from the local state and will graduate its first class of nurses in 2016.

On December 11th, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded the Rambo Committee $600,000 for use by the Christian Hospital Mungeli (CHM) in a project to improve maternal and child health.  In addition, the Rambo Committee is also contributing more than $97,000 for this project. These funds will be used to enhance the availability and quality of pre and post natal care and infant and child care at the hospital and in outlying villages.

The friends of the hospital need to say thank you!  Especially those of you who met the Henrys.  We invite you to follow this link for suggestions as you begin an email to your US Representative and both your US Senators.
