Gifts of Hope November 26-December 13
| Help a family in need this holiday season Each year, with the support of our staff, volunteers, members and the Oakville community, we provide help to families in need over the holiday season. Last year, we supported more than 20 families with much-needed essentials and welcomed gifts, and we anticipate an even greater need this year.
Here's how you can help: - Adopt a family - Fulfill a family's wish list by picking a tag from our YMCA Giving Tree.
- Partial Adoption - Partner with another family or group pf friends to fulfill a wish list.
- Monetary donation - Visit our Membership Services Desk to make a cash contribution and we'll purchase items for a wish list on your behalf.
- Make a gift to our YMCA Strong Kids campaign - Make a donation to help give children and families a gift with a lasting impact.
Please join us to help provide hope and health those in need in our community. For more information, contact Teresa Rinaldi at 905-845-5597 or teresari@oakville.ymca.ca.

Give a Gift that can Change a Life
| New York Times bestselling author and researcher, Dan Buettner has discovered the world's best practices in longevity, happiness and well-being and how to put them to work in people's lives. He says that "if you give someone a tangible item, like a toy, the memory of that act lasts about 9-10 months. However, if you invest in giving someone an experience - the impact of that gift can last a lifetime."
A gift to our YMCA Strong Kids campaign can give more kids a chance to become stronger in character and values, to build the skills and confidence they need to be resilient and courageous and to provide them with support and encouragement to help them reach their full potential.
Help change a child's life forever. Make your gift today.

2012 YMCA Peace Week
Inspiration from coast to coast!
|
YMCA Peace Week, from November 17-24, inspired people across Canada to reflect on peace and explore what actions could be taken both individually, and as a community, to create a more peaceful world.
Check out the YMCA Peace Week Facebook group to see YMCA peace activities in other communities.
Here in Oakville, we had many inspiring activities, including our first ever Candlelight Walk for Peace. The evening was truly magical as 100+ guests heard inpsirational words and pledges of peace from Olympian Diana Matheson and Olympic commentator Tino Dossantos, then joined together for a candlelight walkand released wish lanterns into the night sky.
2012 YMCA Peace Medallion Recipients
 | 2012 YMCA Peace Medallion recipients L-R: Books with No Bounds (group recipient); Jack Yeilding (youth recipient) and Julie Harmgardt (adult recipient) |
On Thursday, November 22, we gathered together with more than 450 members of our community including business leaders, community champions, philanthropists and youth for our annual YMCA Community Breakfast for Peace.
During the event, we awarded our 2012 YMCA Peace Medallions to four exceptional peacemakers. Jack Yeilding, Julie Harmgardt, and Julia and Emma Mogus from books with No Bounds who inspired the audience with their incredible work. These young people are philanthropists, advocates and peacemakers who have turned their passion into action and are doing exceptional things to change our world for the better.
We also heard from an inspiring Spencer West, who not only connected with the audience at the breakfast, but also with high school students at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School and Thomas A. Blakelock High School where he continued to and share his powerful story. By taking our speaker to Oakville's youth, we hope to foster their social responsibility and inspire more great peace work in our community.
