 Henry Ford Health System CEO
Nancy M. Schlichting
to receive
Dan Hart Krichbaum
Visionary Civic Leader Award

Dan Hart Krichbaum Visionary Civic Leader Award
Nancy M. Schlichting, CEO: Henry Ford Health System

College can be a time of discovery about ourselves and about the wider world around us. For Nancy Schlichting, Duke University was where she both discovered that she was gay, and that it was possible to feel welcome and comfortable in a church anyways.

"Churches were hard for me," says Schlichting.

But as a member of the Duke Chapel Choir, she found a place that was non-denominational and inclusive.

Come Learn about the "Word of Wisdom" and the Book of Mormon

In 1820, young Joseph Smith was visited by God and by Jesus Christ in the woods near his New York home. In early fall of 1823, the angel Moroni visited Smith and showed him where the golden plates inscribed with the text of the Book of Mormon were buried. Four years later the angel delivered the plates to Smith for translation and publication, and in 1830, the Book of Mormon was published.

On Tuesday, November 29, Exploring our Religious Landscapes participants will have the opportunity to gather at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 37425 Woodward Ave, Bloomfield Hills to learn about the teachings found in the Book of Mormon and how they shape the lives of Church members.

Uncover Our Sacred Texts
on September 18

Our sacred texts, whether they are understood as divine or mortal in provenance, give words to our understanding of God and our relationship to God, often provide us the words to speak to God, and the ideas that define our behavior towards ourselves and each other. And they describe the rituals that define the daily and seasonal practices of our many faith traditions.

Registration Still Open
for Remaining Sessions

Every day we read the newspapers and see the unrelenting pain and suffering caused by failures of understanding, failures of openness, failures of communication. For those of us who involved in interfaith work, we know that a little bit of religious understanding can go a very long way. And we're excited about the many opportunities we can create in our community to create it.
