IFLC Volunteer Teri Weingarden
Joins WISDOM Board
|
West Bloomfield Treasurer, IFLC Community Building Committee member, and newly appointed WISDOM board member Teri Weingarden could have coined the slogan "Think globally. Act locally."
"Most people don't realize how important local politics are and how much power members of township boards have to make decisions that affect the community," says Weingarden. "The local politics is what affects you on a day to day basis."

The word guru, which means teacher, is a compound of the words "gu," which means dark, and "ru," which means light. "Sikh" means disciple or student. And the guru takes that student from darkness into light.
On Wednesday, April 27, the Exploring Our Religious Landscapes participants got to be the students at the Gurdwara Sahib Ji Mata Tripta in Plymouth. We learned about Sikhism's 15th century beginnings in the Punjab region of India, and the ten gurus, starting with Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, and ending with the Sikh scriptures, the Guru Granth Sahib, which is considered the eternal living guru. We learned about philosophy, theology, and ritual. And we got to enjoy the ritual of langar, the traditional Sikh communal meal.

Religious Diversity Journeys Wraps Up at the Holocaust Memorial Center
|
At the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills, there is a newly planted tree. It was grown from a cutting of the tree that stood in front the of the house where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary. The magic of that tree is that, looking at it, one might imagine what it was like to be Anne Frank, secreted away from the Nazis in a hidden room in Amsterdam.
