 Uncovering our Shared Values
An Exploration of Faith Traditions
 | |

Happy New Year!
It is officially 2016: A Year of Faith and Peace. And we are kicking it off by announcing an incredible opportunity for adults to explore the sacred texts and rituals of four different faiths, and to join in discussion of the values that underlie our different practices and how they can bring us together in common purpose. The program will consist of lectures, immersive worship experiences, dinners, and discussions at four different houses of worship:   Judaism: Tuesday, March 22nd, Temple Israel Sikhism: Wednesday, April 27th, Mata Tripta Ji Gurdwara Sahib Islam: Wednesday, May 18th, Muslim Unity Center Christianity: Wednesday, June 8th, Christ Church Cranbrook   |

Religious Diversity Journeys A Teacher's Perspective by Lori Lachowicz
 | |

I have had the privilege and honor of attending the RDJ program for 10 years.  Experiencing this program through the eyes of  7th graders fills me with joy and hope.  The students are curious and ask thoughtful questions.  As an adult I've learned so much, even about my own faith. It's difficult to articulate how invaluable this program is-not only to our students, but the world they are entering as young adults.  Each journey is an opportunity to be immersed in that religion and gain insight into their perspective.  The hosts graciously welcome us and are grateful to have the opportunity to educate us about their faith.  These journeys empower us with a global perspective on world religions, which is priceless.  I can't help but look at the students and wonder how many will become goodwill ambassadors of religious diversity.  Certainly they are important ambassadors at our schools. We debrief with students after each journey and they are so excited about what they've experienced.  They can't wait to share it with their family and friends, as the programs far exceeds their expectations.  Many of our former students come back years later and tell us they will never forget the RDJ experience and the lasting impression it has had on them.  I've enjoyed sharing these impactful journeys with others as well.  It is extremely gratifying to be a part of this enriching program and grow personally through these special journeys.     Lori Lachowicz Community School Organizer Berkshire Middle School   |
