2015
A Good Year by the Numbers
|
The December 22 launch of "2016: A Year of Faith and Peace" was the beginning of what we expect to be a busy and fruitful year. It also marked the end of an incredibly successful year of expanding religious literacy for children and adults, and working with faith and interfaith partners to increase the reach and impact of our collective efforts toward peacemaking and community-building. Thank you all for your support, and for your individual work within your families, your congregations and your communities. Together we are making metro Detroit and the world a more respectful, inclusive and loving place.
2015 by the numbers:
1 Sacred Treasures art exhibition of ritual objects, curated by IFLC board member Nancy Thayer and co-sponsored by the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.
2 new IFLC board members: Raman Singh was elected the new president of the IFLC, and Nancy Combs joined the board and is responsible for the creation of our newly formed Healthcare Committee.
4 Face to Faith interfaith gatherings for teens where teens from diverse faith traditions spent an evening learning about one another, being immersed in a faith tradition not their own, and asking questions of one another.
4 Ed Levy Adult Religious Literacy Grants awarded to our friends and partners at WISDOM, Plymouth Canton ICO, Christ Church Cranbrook, and DION for their efforts and ideas in promoting and creating new programs and initiatives to teach adult religious literacy in metro Detroit.
5 Adult literacy programs, 3 Interfaith panels at the Baldwin Library - The differences in Christian Denominations, Pain and Healing across the faith traditions, and Five Women Five Journeys presented by WISDOM. "Final Goodbyes" was presented at Henry Ford Medical Center, and "Hats Across the Faith Traditions" at St. John's Episcopal.
120 Interfaith friends joined us at our annual meeting and luncheon in June, where we came together to share a meal, to discuss best practices and share our vision for the upcoming year.
150 religious leaders and community members were present at the kick-off of "2016: A Year of Faith and Peace" last week as we stood in solidarity to fight the fear of "the other" that is rampant in society today.
405 attendees joined us to remember Dan Krichbaum, and honor Brother Al Mascia, Steve Spreitzer and Shirley Stancato at our annual awards dinner in October.
750 7th graders from 13 school districts and 25 middle schools from around the metro Detroit area went on 14 Religious Diversity Journeys, to visit diverse houses of worship for a day of learning, lunch, service and fun, in an effort to promote understanding and combat bullying

Statement of Solidarity
|
Last week, the faith and interfaith community came together to launch 2016: A Year of Faith and Peace at Dearborn's Islamic Center of America.
150 members of the clergy, lay leadership and community gathered to affirm faith in the face of fear, share statements of solidarity from many of our faith communities, and sign on to a Statement of Solidarity Confirming our Faithfulness and our Support for Religious Freedom.
It will be a year of events. We will join together in friendship, common purpose, and mutual support to create an atmosphere of peace in our community, and a light that will eclipse the darkness of fear and hate. Please see the calendar below for upcoming programs. And please join us - come out to some events, show your solidarity and make some new friends!
