Dr. Dan Buttry to lead Trainers for Change Training
|
Conflict. It's a word we read in our newsfeeds daily. It's often combined with grim words like long, bloody and violent. Sometimes it's combined with "resolution," which implies that a way was found to mollify all parties enough to halt the conflict. But the best possible combination is with "transformation." Conflict transformation, turning the conflict into something else.
Dr. Dan Buttry, is a global consultant for peace and justice with the American Baptist International Ministries. His mission is peace, and he travels the world to help others in regions of social and political conflict and within church communities create it. This June, Detroiters interested in learning the tools Dr. Buttry uses in this work have the opportunity to participate in a three day workshop with Dr. Buttry and co-facilitator Erika Thorne of Training for Change.

PeerCorps Detroit to host
Interfaith Youth Potluck
March 31
|
Mitzvah is a Jewish word that means commandment, but is often used to mean good deed. Jewish children do "mitzvah projects" during the year of their bar or bat mitzvah, the Jewish coming of age ceremony. In a new twist on the mitzvah project, PeerCorps Detroit is matching up 12 and 13 year olds in their bar/bat mitzvah year with eleventh and twelfth grade mentors to work on projects such at Detroit's Eden Garden Block Club, Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue, St. Joseph's Healthcare Center, D-Town Farms, and Clark Park.

IFLC to receive Spirit of Unity Award
|
The Interfaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit will be presented with the Spirit of Unity Award at the 9th Annual Spirit Awards Banquet to be held on May 13, 2015.
In his letter, Ecumenical Theological Seminary President Dr. Stephen Butler Murray wrote "The Spirit Awards are among the highest honors that Ecumenical Theological Seminary may offer to those whose life work mirrors the mission and ethical commitments of the seminary community. We received your successful nomination among the nominations of many extraordinary citizens and organizations championing the common good, and you were recognized as the standard bearer among those nominees in the category of The Spirit of Unity Award, which "recognizes an individual or organization that is working in the community to promote and establish an appreciation and understanding of different cultures and religions."
