Quick Update and good news!

Dear Friends and Family,

We are happy to report that we received the results from our ÖSD A-1 language test and  (drum roll, please....)

...we both PASSED and did quite well!  We are thankful that God allowed time to focus plus for many great language helpers along the way!  We still have a long way to go in speaking German, but the required language hurdle for the Visa is done!

These past months, God has shown us His hand in many ways. He has taught us, led us, loved us and sustained us. We are thankful that He is giving us direction and vision.  We continue to pray that we see others through His eyes, with compassion and love.

As you know, we must leave Austria then return to Vienna in late December to apply for the Visa.  We will be in Texas by Wednesday, October 2nd, God willing.

We realize that new challenges still lie ahead!  Will you pray with us in these important areas:

For our time in the States:

1. For transportation;  a car to drive from October - December.  *Praise Note - God has blessed us with a house in N. Denton to stay in while we are home.

2. For our financial support.  We are praying for opportunities to share about God's work and build our support team.   Over these past 3 years, God has amply provided for us and our support account has been healthy.  (Thank you!!)  However, due to several reasons (unexpected moving/travel expenses, some supporters having financial difficulties, etc) our support account is low.  In addition, there will be new expenses related to the transition to Vienna.

How can you help?
We have been so encouraged by recent new supporters, extra one-time gifts by others, and the faithfulness and generosity of our support team! Thank you!!! We know that many of you are already sacrificing to advance the gospel and we are so thankful for you.   Please know that we are trusting God!  He is always faithful to provide our needs!

We hope to see you soon!

In Christ Jesus our Lord,
Jim and Brenda

Some Ministry Highlights

We recently had the awesome opportunity to go to the United Nations in Vienna to lead a bible study.  They have a "bible club" of about 20 members from many different faiths, and a Pastor friend asked Jim to fill in.

They had been studying through the book of Joshua and that week were on Joshua, chapter 5.  As Jim prepared for the study, the text really spoke to us.

Joshua chapter 5 records the time immediately after God's people had miraculously crossed the Jordan river.  They were facing fierce battles immediately ahead, yet God instructs Joshua to circumcise the men - yes, the defenders, the warriors, the protectors of their families, the ones responsible for securing the land for the people!  In our human way of thinking, this seems like a very untimely command, incapacitating the men on the brink of war.

BUT GOD
, wanted His people to:
*remember His promise to them (Genesis 17)
*remember how HE had brought them to where they were
*rely on Him for timing and protection

In the same chapter, the manna which God had provided for the years past, disappeared.  BUT from that day forward, they "ate from the fruit of the land."   God always provides in His way and in His time, saying "Trust Me."

It seemed that each of the 7 Bible Club members was struggling with a specific area in life where trust was hard.  As we all consumed the text, it was clear that God used it to His glory.  We were able to encourage them to remember how God has always been faithful!  And also to recognize the huge opportunity they have as a handful of Christians, in a city-like atmosphere of 45oo other people who work at the U.N.

To God be the glory for the things He has done!

"Where are you from?

Their answers still amaze us.  Libya, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Albania....the list goes on.  Even more amazing and heartbreaking are their stories.

We usually end up sitting, chairs in a circle, with several young men, straining to hear or understand what is being said.  Often the conversations require 2 or 3, even 4 translations, with each helping the other with the languages he knows.

The OASIS begins the evening with the statement, "We are followers of Jesus the Messiah..."  Most of the some 40-60 men and women stay for the entire evening, consisting of praise and worship music, a lesson/sermon from the bible, then coffee and cake time, when we have more opportunity to visit and share with them.

Sometimes there is some type of distraction at the back of the room during the sermon.  Usually a few leave.  Some leave quietly and others loudly state some objection.  The volunteers are unfazed!

We have been blessed to spend some time here and serve alongside others who have been here for years.  We would like to share more with you in person.  Please let us know when we can have that opportunity!

Ongoing prayer requests...

*Please don't miss our specific requests in section 1 above.

For healthy, safe and timely travel next week.

That God breaks our hearts for the people here and gives us wisdom to reach out to them.

Please pray for the refuges, particularly a young man from Iran, and another from Afghanistan who are alone, afraid and need the Lord.

That God provides the needed financial support for us to return to Vienna and continue serving.

That we are among the first in line and receive our Visas in January.

For an affordable place to live in Vienna, near public transportation.

Open doors for the gospel and wisdom to walk through them.
