 On June 16, Family Express was named Convenience Store Chain of the Year. This is considered the most prestigious award in the convenience store industry.
Valparaiso is fortunate to have so many nationally recognized corporations.
Congratulations Gus Olympidis and the entire Family Express Team! This locally owned firm started with one convenience store and has grown to over 60.

 On May 5th, the voters in the Valparaiso School District went to the voting booth and made quite a statement - by a 2 to 1 margin, the largest referendum in the history of this school district was passed approving a $125 million bond to invest in improvements to the schools. The City has, by a similar margin, voted to approve a $4 million operating infusion to raise the level of funding to a level where it was before statewide education cuts were made.
This momentous decision certainly gave the students, teachers, and administrators a real vote of confidence to know that the voters in this school district believe in the importance of quality education.
The beauty of this vote is that less than 20% of the residents have school age children in the home. In other words, citizens believe quality schools are a core building block to a strong and vibrant community.
People are attracted to communities that have strong, quality, neighborhood schools. Strong schools mean strong property values for citizens. This core building block in overall community development will help set the course for an even brighter future for Valparaiso.

On Thursday, October 15, from 4:00 p.m. 7- 7:00 p.m. the Porter County Chamber Coalition of the Valparaiso, Portage, Duneland, Hebron and Kouts Chambers, will host the largest business-to -business networking event in the region.
Last year, over 1,000 business professionals toured the Porter County Expo Center looking for the best new products and services offered in Porter County. The event is free to attend, so make sure you mark your calendar, because if you do business in Porter County, this is where you need to be!
