The Valpo Chamber will host its annual "Salute to Leadership" dinner on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Strongbow Inn, 2405 US 30 E.
This black-tie optional evening will begin with cocktails at 6:00 p.m., and continue with dinner and awards at 7:00 p.m.
The Valpo Chamber will honor Spero Valavanis, Design Organization, with the 2014 Distinguished Community Leader Award. Each year, the Distinguished Community Leader award is given to an individual within the community who demonstrates a leadership role, is successful in promoting and developing business and industry, is involved and contributes to the community, has a general reputation among community business leaders and enhances the quality of life in our community on a sustained basis. "Spero has been a long-time, out-front leader of numerous organizations in the community. He is a past chair of the Valpo Chamber and top volunteer board leader of the Porter County Community Foundation, to name two. Besides his community leadership involvement, Spero has influenced the design of many community institutions through his professional input on numerous buildings in Valparaiso," stated Rex Richards, Valpo Chamber President.  | | Dale Clapp |
Dale Clapp, First Merchants Bank, will be awarded the 2014 Legacy of Service Award. The Valpo Chamber Board of Directors created the Legacy of Service Award in 2004 to give special recognition to individuals in the community who have, over the course of time or in an extraordinary circumstance, given service to the community beyond what is expected in their profession. Rex Richards added, "Dale has dedicated his community service in leadership capacities with Porter-Starke Services, Valpo Chamber, Ivy Tech Foundation as well as Valparaiso Economic Development Corporation and many others year in and year out." Outgoing 2014 Board Chair Tina Bengs, Ogletree Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, and incoming 2015 Board Chair, Debbie Anselm, The Times Media Company, will also be recognized for their service to the board. VALPO CHAMBER ANNUAL MEETING

The Valpo Chamber will host its Annual Membership Meeting luncheon on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event will be held at Valparaiso University Harre Union.
This annual recognition program, sponsored by Porter Health Care System, will report Chamber accomplishments and recognize various committees and volunteers. The luncheon also features the "State of the City" address from Mayor Jon Costas.
For the past several years, this event has sold out, so don't delay in making your reservations. Cost to attend this event is $20 for members (pre-paid), $22 for members (invoiced), and $25 for non-members (pre-paid only).

LEGISLATIVE HOTLINE PROGRAM TO BEGIN SOON!

 All Valpo Chamber members are invited to attend the Valpo Chamber Legislative Hotline program beginning in January 2015. These legislative briefings give members an opportunity to hear firsthand about legislation being proposed and enacted in Indianapolis. State Senators and House Representatives for Porter County and representatives of the Duneland and Portage Chambers of Commerce are either in attendance or present via conference call during these programs. Valpo Chamber Legislative Hotline events begin at 7:30 a.m. and are held at the Chamber office, located at 162 W Lincolnway, and are open to all chamber members at no cost. 2015 Legislative Hotline Dates: Friday, January 16 Friday, February 6 Friday, February 20 Friday, March 6 Friday, March 20 Friday, April 3 (tentative) Always check the Valpo Chamber on-line calendar for the most up-to-date information. |
