INDEPENDENT STUDY ANNOUNCEMENT
We are excited to announce that Amanda Simmons, our current 6th grade teacher, will become the Journey School Independent Study teacher starting this fall. Amanda has devoted countless hours in creating the independent study program and has strengthened her tool kit on homeschooling, compliance, and the various complexities of an independent study program. Although sending her students off to 7th grade with without her is not without sadness, she will remain closeby as they continue their journey. Read Mrs. Simmons bio here.
Only a few seats remain in ourIndependent Study Program. Come learn more about the Waldorf inspired home-based program at an information meeting on Monday mornings, 5/9 or 5/16, at 11am. RSVP to info@journeyschool.net.
SHOW OUR TEACHERS SOME LOVE
Journey teachers go above and beyond everyday for our students. Let's show them how much we appreciate who they are and all they do. Teacher Appreciation Week continues through this Wed., 5/11. Flowers, homemade cards, poems, or other creative tokens of appreciation are wonderful ways to shower your main class teacher or the specialty teacher your class has been assigned. We also need all hands on deck to help create a very special TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON on Wed., 5/11 at 12:45pm. Sign up here to contribute food, beverages, entertainment, decorations, serving platters, baskets, etc.
MODERN DAY KNIGHTS
Newly knighted 6th graders performed with honor and fortitude at the recent Medieval Games featuring 12 regional Waldorf schools. The knighting process includes camping overnight during a 12 hour vow of silence where students reflect on home and school improvements as well as individual community service projects. Special thanks to the Selby family for their photos. Read more about Medieval Games and the Knighting Ceremony on our website and blog.
A GREAT STAGE OF LEARNING
Miss Morrison's 2nd grade class recently took to the stage for their class play "Saint Jerome and the Lion" which tells the story of a kind man who removes a thorn from a lion's paw. The students shined in their roles: The students also experienced a recent class service field trip to the Incredible Edible Farm where they harvested 1800 pounds of cabbage to feed the hungry of Orange County. Way to go second graders!
