At the Auction, so many Journey parents and local supporters opened their hearts and wallets to fund our unique programs and playground enhancements. Light Our Journey gives Journey families tools to reach out beyond our local community to ask for support in making Journey School's future brighter.
You are not being asked to donate your own dollars, but rather to use pre-written letters and an electronic platform to reach out to your network of friends and associates to share why Journey School matters--and to ask for crucial support in funding our school's future.
Visit our Pledgestar site, upload photos of your children, and enter 10 email addresses of people who may be willing to support the future of your child's education. Pledgestar will send personalized emails to your contacts with a link to donate, a thank you if they donate, and a tax receipt. You'll be able to see which of your contacts has opened the emails and donated. It's that simple. No donation is too small.
Please visit Pledgestar to add your photos and contact emails before April 1st. Help support the Journey School Foundation in creating a better future for the students of Journey School and beyond.

AUCTION RECAP -- YOU DID IT!
|
Thanks to the tremendous efforts and generosity of Journey parents, faculty, administration, staff, friends, and over 200 local businesses and philanthropic organizations, the Auction raised over $50,000 to support the amazing education and new playground enhancements at Journey School. A full recap will be available on the Parent Cabinet website next week. Please remember to thank and support our auction sponsors for making this year's event wildly successful:
And mark your calendars for next year's night of bidding, socializing, dining, and dancing at "Auction Gala 2017" to be held on March 25, 2017. |
Journey 7th & 8th graders raised the bar earlier this month in competition with nine other SoCal schools at the annual Waldorf Track & Field Meet.
8th graders Gianna and Hanna took 1st & 2nd place, respectively, in almost all of the girls' races. Gianna was the most decorated individual in the meet, with gold in 50, 100, 200, and 400 meters, hurdles, javelin, and relay, and a bronze in the mile. The girl's relay team of Gianna, Hannah, Georgia, and Jasmine took the gold for 8th grade! Participants competed in high jump, long jump, 50, 100, 200 and 400 meter dash, hammer, shotput, javelin, relay race, 60 meter hurdles, discus, and the mile run. Peyton took 2nd in javelin, Kaito and Cole medaled in high jump and hurdles, Sydnee in shot put, Gianna brought her team up from last place to 4th in co-Ed relay, and many of our 7th graders also medaled, including Julia and Brandon in hurdles and Calvin in the mile. Journey students showed strength and perseverance at the meet, coming away with a medal or a sense of pride in having given their best.

| Overall, Journey students impressed with their physical effort as well as their attitudes and spirit. Special thanks to our Games teachers, Ms. Joy and Mr. Storm, and our grades teachers, Mrs. Kelley, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. T.S for guiding our students to victory! Way to go, Journey School!

Curricular-based field trips have taken Journey students all over SoCal this year. 6th graders left this week for a 3-day overnight trip to a Science and Leadership Camp at Pali Institute. We can't wait to hear about their adventures. Here they are getting ready for the bus ride: Ms. Cameron's 2nd graders also boarded a school bus this week--for the very first time! The students attended the play "The Egg" at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The dialogue-free play demonstrated how acting can be done without talking, and how important it is to use body and facial expressions to express yourself. The students also enjoyed meeting the actors, as well as playing in Center's echo chamber and labyrinth.

Mark your calendars for Journey's most beautiful festival of the year, May Faire! On May 4th, Journey students will celebrate Spring's arrival with festive and traditional dances around the May Pole. Parents, grandparents, friends and family are invited to watch the wonderful displays of hard-earned grace and rhythm. Details will be shared soon. Until then, be on the lookout for post-holiday sales on white dresses, shorts, and shirts so your students have everything they need to dress their part.

SPRING BREAK = SPRING CLEANING
|
Clean out your closets for Journey's easiest fundraiser--Clothes for the Cause, an organization that re-uses, recycles, and up-cycles your unusable textiles. Our goal is for each student to bring in 10 garbage bags of outgrown, worn out, and unused clothing; clean rugs; bed and kitchen linens; and shoes, by April 22nd, Earth Day! Money raised will go towards the All-School Field Trip Assistance fund, enhancing indoor and outdoor classroom environments, and overall campus beautification. Bags will be sent home next week and collections will be taken each Thursday morning at the recycling container near the front field. Journey gets a huge bonus if more than 5,000 lbs are collected--so ask friends and neighbors for their discards too!

A Digital Citizenship and Literacy Workshop is coming to Journey School on May 7 from 9am-4:30pm. Digital Citizenship is a crucial skill set for all students, today more than ever. Students must be good digital citizens and learn to build positive digital footprints so they can be contributors to our global society and avoid mistakes that could jeopardize their futures. "Cyber Civics" incubated at Journey and is now being taught in 19 states. Bonus event: A screening and discussion of The Mask You Live In will be held on May 6 at 7pm. Learn more.
