FOCUS ON LEARNING: SPANISH
Margot Guezugara's poem "El Nido" beautifully describes a bird building its nest with care, dedication, and artistic rendering. In 4th grade Spanish Language class, students are building their own Spanish nests with verse, poetry, tongue twisters, art, beauty, hard work, and dedication. During this year, 4th graders learn about the two kingdoms in the Spanish grammar: El reino de "LA" reina Flora and El reino de "EL" rey Alfonso, and everything that belongs to their kingdoms.... Weaved into the learning is an array of stories, celebrations, legends, games, and riddles that brings the language alive through interest and connection. Later on, students will write sentences and then short compositions in Spanish... their Spanish nest! Learn more on our website.

COOKING UP THE CURRICULUM
Third graders have been busy in the Kitchen Classroom. The current cooking block is focused on "preserving the harvest." Luckily, our school gardens have provided an abundance of produce. Students have been hands-on learning about fractions, sorting, weighing, measuring, volume, capacity, sequencing, problem-solving and estimation. Creating homemade crackers using herbs from the garden.... Making lemon zest, lemon juice, preserved lemons, lemon dressing and lemon sauce.... Preparing sauerkraut and lacto-fermented garden veggies.... Separating eggs for Valentine's meringue cookies.... Journey's cooking curriculum helps 3rd and 5th grade students gain awareness and skills that support and enrich their academic experience and aligns with Journey's Eco-literacy program.

AUCTION GALA IS 2 WEEKS AWAY!
Every member of our community is needed to help reach Parent Cabinet's two goals: - Raise funds equal to the cost of one month of Kindy Assistants and all Specialty Programs for all grades at Journey School.
- Bring our community closer together and celebrate what we together have made possible for our students, faculty, and families; and the positive impact we've had on public education in Orange County and beyond.
