The Thursday Know: Special Edition
January 3, 2016
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome back students, teachers, staff and parents! We hope you enjoyed a wonderful and restful break and are ready to start the new year refreshed and energized. We are grateful to each of you for your partnership in the education of Journey's students and we look forward to a productive and meaningful 2016!
TUT, TUT, LOOKS LIKE RAIN
If you've checked the weather forecast, you know that it will be a very wet week at Journey School. Please be prepared and dress your children for the weather. We hope to see all students outside and enjoying some of the rain this week, but they must be appropriately dressed to do so. You may wish to send extra clothes.
LETTING OUR LIGHTS SHINE
Before the break, students participated in light festivals of winter, including the Winter Spiral Walk. 8th grader, Jasmine, shared that "Spiral Walk is a time to reflect on the world and yourself in a positive way." According to 5th grader, Natalie, "When I walked the spiral, I thought about the good times I've had with my class and I held good thoughts for all people." Students Sebastien, Brysan, and Sierra offered, "It was dark, it was silent, and it was fun!"

In the spirit of Santa Lucia, bright and cheery 2nd graders also let their lights shine in a parade of gifts of song and sweet bread. Learn more on our website.

 NATIVE GARDEN GETS A FACELIFT
The Native Garden is in the middle of a major makeover thanks to Journey parent, Ryan Tracy, of Native West, who donated plants and services and volunteered to teach 4th grade students about sustainable landscaping. Lukas learned, "If you build a trench and put rocks in it, the water stays there longer and then nearby plants are able to absorb it through their roots." Thanks for your generosity, Ryan!
