October 29, 2015
COME ONE, COME ALL!
Everyone is invited to our beloved "Harvest Faire" that will open its doors on Saturday, November 14th from 11am until 5pm.

Experience the magic as we come together to celebrate the bounty of the land, connect children to the rhythms of nature, and foster a sense of gratitude.
Fairy Cafe at Harvest Faire
Journey's largest event of the year is a one-of-a-kind, old time Country Fair--complete with straw bales, pumpkins, vintage games and crafts, live music, cake walks, artisan booths, food trucks, and a "Fairy Cafe" that boasts an assortment of baked goods, beverages & more.

For more information about Harvest Faire visit the Parent Cabinet website.
Special thanks to the Pradhan Studios for the Harvest Faire photos.
MANY HANDS MAKE IT HAPPEN
It takes the whole village to make Harvest Faire happen. Here's how to help:
  • Many hands means many FREE pumpkins on 11/1 at 6am at Irvine Regional Park. Help us gather as many "first-come, first-served" pumpkins as your vehicle will hold and we'll store them at school.
  • Fairy Cafe needs baked goods, ice and coolers, Trader Joe's Apple Cider and Lemonade, baked potatoes, and more. Sign up for Fairy Cafe here.
  • Online "pre-sale" tickets start 11/2 or purchase 22 tickets for $20 at our PC sales table on Tues, Weds, & Thurs. Activity booths, Fairy Cafe and food trucks will only accept tickets; so plan your budget in advance.
HALLOWEEN PARADE STARTS AT 8:45
Tomorrow's Halloween parade is sure to delight students and parents alike. As a reminder, simple, homemade costumes are encouraged; and all costumes must adhere to curricular themes. Click here for costume guidelines. Education Director, Patti Connolly, shares why Journey celebrates Halloween on our blog.
FOCUS ON LEARNING
Several grades classes, including 1st Grade students, shared Booooo-tiful poems, songs, and music at Wednesday's assembly. We love Mrs. Lee's festive chalkboard drawing that helped 1st Graders get into the holiday spirit:
First Grade Chalk Drawing

7th grade concludes their month-long creative writing block tomorrow. One assignment asked students to write an "ode" to something not normally praiseworthy. In keeping with our theme, we hope you'll enjoy Lilly B's "Ode to Spider Webs":
Ode to Spider webs
The stickiest of them all,
You're in my room,
Up my stairs and in my hair,
All over everything
I own!
How do you get webbed
So fast?
I close my eyes for one second,
And there you appear!
So quick, but silent,
Formed in the slit of a second.
As I run through you,
I feel like throwing up,
I get itchy and scratchy,
All over.

NEW CERAMICS SESSION STARTS MONDAY
After School Ceramics will start a new six week session on Monday. Students in Grades 2-8 will get their hands dirty by creating vessels, animal forms, and projects inspired by ancient civilizations. Miss Collins shares, "I have seen how children approach a block of clay as a block of endless possibilities. Creating 3-dimensional art has been a great passion of mine, and after teaching at Orange County School of the Arts, I'm enjoying the return to my roots as an arts instructor." Read more about after school opportunities on our website.
