JACQUE NUNEZ VISITS 4TH GRADE
In alignment with their curriculum, 4th grade students got a special treat this week with a visit from Jacque Nunez, a tribal descendant of the Acjachemen Nation. Students heard stories and song, acted out ceremonies, weaved baskets, and learned about the tools, instruments, games, and clothing of the indigenous people of San Juan Capistrano.

EMERGING CREATIVE WRITERS
7th graders just completed the first week of a Creative Writing block with Mrs. Townley-Smith. Sebastian shares Connotation Writing on "Spiders" below.

Tragically misunderstood little beings,
delicate loving quiet little feet,
unnoticed by humans,
softly spinning masterpieces in the soft moonlight,
their webs, beautiful in the brightening dawn,
covered in sparkling diamond-like dew.
Their soft, silky fur, so thin, so fine,
their gentle, small feet resting lightly, patiently upon their webs.
I slowly reach out a gentle finger,
eager to touch this amazing delicate being,
suddenly, with lightening speed, it strikes.
I feel a sharp pain,
look down and see an ominous red spot
spreading on my finger,
feel the poison course through my blood,
I start to feel faint,
I hear a clicking coming from the spider,
It is the last thing I hear.
IMPORTANT HOMEWORK CLUB NOTICE
Wednesday's Homework Club for Grades 5-8 has been more popular than we anticipated. In order to ensure the program's success, new protocols will be implemented starting 10/21. Parents will be required to sign their child up the day prior to attending the class. Click here to learn more.
GRADES 1-3: RECESS BEFORE EATING
You may have noticed your Grade 1-3 child's snack and lunch breaks look a bit different this year. Before eating snack and lunch, students are dismissed to the playground for play and then they eat their food. Following snack and lunch, students return to class, ready to learn. "Recess Before Eating" has been implemented in many schools around the country. Specifically, schools report the following benefits:
  • Greater nutrient consumption, as children eat a more balanced diet
  • Less food waste or food thrown away, as children are more ready to eat and are not in a hurry to get outside to play
  • Better classroom performance, as children pay more attention when they are not hungry.
  • Better lunch tables and classroom behavior, as children are focused on lunch rather than the playground and return to class feeling more full and settled.
