EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCES
At Journey, students in grades 1-8 attend field trips throughout the year. These exceptional experiences offer students an opportunity to make curricular connections and deepen their learning. On Thursday, Journey 7th graders took their learning outside to a High Ropes Course in Anaheim:

High Ropes for Grade 7

From 3rd-8th grade, students participate in fee-based overnight class trips that are chosen to challenge and fortify character. To help plan for these expenses and to ensure payment in advance, we require that parents return the Exceptional Experience Form to your child's teacher by 10/1.
RECIPE FOR FUNGI IN 5TH GRADE
This week 5th graders took their botany lesson into the kitchen to roll their own sushi. These students sure rocked the algae roll! Don't you agree?

HOMEWORK CLUB ON WEDNESDAYS
The Faculty is pleased to announce that on Wednesday afternoons from 1:15-3:30pm, Mrs. Kerry Townley-Smith, will lead a "Homework Club" for the 5th-8th grade students. As you may know, Mrs. Townley-Smith has graduated three 8th grade classes from the school. In addition, three of her own children are Journey School graduates, while her youngest two children currently attend. Read more about Mrs. Townley-Smith on our website.

Homework Club is specifically for students in 5th-8th grade who need a quiet place to do homework and may require a small amount of support from an experienced teacher. Homework Club is not intended as a play time or as childcare. Mrs. Townley-Smith will focus her time on 8th grade students who need assistance in math where intervention in regular class time is not possible. Typically, a student will be referred to the "club" by a teacher or may attend based on parent conversation with Mrs. Townley-Smith.
CLOSE THE GAP FORMS DUE
Thank you to the 104 families who returned your signed Close the Gap form or pledged through the website. Your generosity has raised over $102,470 for the students. If you are one of the remaining 195 families, we are counting on you to help raise $100,000 more so we can meet our budget demands. To keep our program strong, we need everyone to contribute what they can. All families are expected to complete the Close the Gap form even if you cannot pledge at this time. If your family committed to giving by check this month, contact Cindy or Janet to make your payment today.
