COME AS STRANGERS, STAY AS FAMILY
|
Journey School 8th graders greeted each new 1st grader with a friendly smile and a warm embrace at last week's Rose Ceremony which kicked off Journey's 16th year as Orange County's only Public Waldorf Charter School.

After the Rose Ceremony, following tradition, parents and staff formed a human arch as students paraded excitedly to their new classrooms.
A big thank you to The Pradhan Studios for capturing the special moments.

MANY HANDS MAKE THINGS HAPPEN
|
It's the synergistic work of committed parents, caring and capable teachers, and dedicated staff that keeps the engine humming at Journey School. That's why every family commits to pitching in. Over the summer, parent volunteers showed up each Wednesday to tend our 7 gardens.

Anna Brown waters corn in the 3rd grade garden
|
Earlier this month, 3rd grade teacher, Arias Collins, and Earthroots Field School Director, Jodi Levine, harvested ears of corn that will be dried and used for grinding in a 3rd grade grain cooking project. As our Green Partner, Earthroots helps to weave Eco-Literacy throughout the curriculum.

KEEPING STUDENTS MEDIA SAFE
|
Erin McNeill, President of Media Literacy Now, the leading national advocacy organization for media literacy policy, applauds Journey School for its "media-free" campus. Additionally, "Media Literacy," which encompasses this topic, is taught at Journey in 8th grade; so students have an understanding and appreciation for the school's media policy.
Diana Graber, founder of Journey's Cyber Civics program and of CyberWise, encourages parents to monitor their children's devices closely. Although Journey School will continue to offer the Copilot Family app, your own cellphones and computers also offer excellent Parental Controls and Safety Settings. Click here for Mrs. Graber's Back-to-School Night handout (intended for adult viewers only). Additionally, Mrs. Graber supports Journey's dress code policy as another vehicle to keep students protected from consumerism. Check out these articles from the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood website: For more resources on children and consumerism, see these links:
