CHARTER UPDATE & SCHOOL AMBASSADORS
|
| Industrial Revolution drawing by Alea, grade 8 |
Journey stakeholders shared their passion last night with CUSD officials regarding the renewal of our charter--approval is expected on 4/22. Please thank our eloquent ambassadors: Ross Chun, Parent and A.V. Councilman; Mike Corbo, Alumni Parent and Board President; Gavin Keller, School Director; and Tim Connolly, Educational Director.
Journey was the first charter in CUSD, the first parent-initiated charter in Orange County, and strives to be an innovative model for integrated and arts-infused education.

FUNDRAISING KEYS & UPDATE
|
With the Auction fast approaching, we want to highlight Journey School's annual fundraising rhythms and revenue sources.
4 Keys to Funding (1) State Funding accounts for 75% of the school's revenue and is tied to attendance.
(2) Close the Gap is a voluntary but critical parent pledge program that helps to bridge the gap between funding from the state and the the cost of public Waldorf education.
Please contact Janet or click here to honor your commitment. Any amount helps and all donations are confidential. (3) Parent Cabinet: The Auction is PC's largest source of income and guarantees students access to specialty classes, and much more. (4) Foundation: The Foundation exists to further the mission of Journey School and to secure a permanent campus. Although philanthropic work is not easy and takes time, notable accomplishments have been achieved since 2013. For instance, more than $75,000 have been donated or committed to the school and the Foundation helped Journey win over $400,000 in facilities grants. Further, the 2014 Light Our Journey campaign raised over $35,000 from 150 generous donors. However, the fixed costs associated with maintaining a fundraising headquarters are expensive and even more support is needed.
*Charter schools are recommended to set aside at least 5% of their operating budgets in an emergency fund. Journey is projected to achieve a 12% reserve by summer. The school possesses more than $400,000 in assets and cash flow is stable.
