"Schools integrating the arts into the curriculum as part of a comprehensive education reform strategy are documenting positive changes in the school environment and student performance," says research by the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies.
At Journey School, visual arts are woven into all academic subjects.
Students enjoy the opportunity to draw, paint, and make things with their hands that are related to their academic studies in history, science, literature, and more. Students also enjoy visual arts after school with Miss Gaylen each Wednesday. Visit our website to learn more about after school offerings.

Our 4th Graders are currently in a Native American culture block learning ancestral survival skills offered in partnership with Earthroots Field School. Curricular activities include identifying and using edible and medicinal plants, creating tools such as fire-making tools and bows and arrows, and natural crafts. In alignment with our Waldorf roots, Journey's Ecoliteracy Intensives integrate science, math, language arts, and creative arts, and are designed according to students' natural and intellectual and emotional development. See an overview of our K-8 Ecoliteracy curriculum here.

THE HAND IS MIGHTIER THAN THE KEYBOARD
|
Journey students spend hours each week creating their own text books, taking written notes, and practicing handwriting skills. Read Drake Baer's article called "Here's Why Writing Things Out By Hand Makes You Smarter" and discover how brain studies align with Journey's curricular choices.

The Laguna Canyon Foundation (LCF) is conducting a habitat restoration project in Aliso Creek as a service to OC Parks. Although the project will benefit the native plant and animal species by increasing good habitat, it is important to adhere to the following guidelines: - Maintain a safe distance from all heavy machinery and other power tools, even when not in use. Keep children at least 200 feet (about 5 bus lengths) from operating equipment.
- Postpone all field trips to the creek until March 15, especially in areas where active Giant Reed removal is occurring or where workers or tractors are present. It is unsafe to approach work areas because the tractors use heavy saws and debris that could potentially be projected up to 200 feet from the tractor.
- From March 15 - June 15, children must be accompanied and closely supervised by adults at all times when visiting the creek area. This is because restoration workers may continue less intensive removal activities during this period.

Journey parents give to the voluntary Close-the-Gap pledge program annually so students may benefit from small class sizes, teacher assistants, specialty classes, field trips, and other distinguishing features typically found in private schools only. We wanted you to know that 67.3% of families have generously donated $115,028.69 in 2014-15. Thank you and be on the lookout for year end tax letters. Remember, it's not too late to give (any amount is appreciated) by clicking here. Pledges are voluntary, private, and have no bearing on enrollment status. A big thank you to our parents for attending your recent parent meeting and for supporting 2015-16 CTG. Please return the form to the Development Office by 2/28.
