We've got good news for all of you who have patiently encouraged your children to stick it out through music classes, private lessons and countless performances over the years. 4TH GRADE FRACTIONS IN THE FIELD
If you've been on campus recently you may have seen our fabulous 4th graders traveling the grounds solving complex fraction problems. Working individually and in groups, students added and subtracted fractions using seemingly mundane objects to enliven learning that inlcuded hay bails, garden equipment, wooden stools and chairs, and much more. According to Mr. Calloway and Sean, there are many benefits to such hands-on learning activities, including increased motivation, student collaboration, engagement with the environment, and deep learning of concepts through movement and fun.

8TH GRADERS EAT UP ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
Spend time talking with 8th graders these days and they're bound to teach you about the nutrition and chemical makeup of common foods like crackers, vegetables, and fruits. This week, students are experimenting with macronutrients, specifically learning about the nutrition and chemical makeup of fats, carbs, and proteins by combining them with certain solutions. According to Elise, "We love volunteering and participating in Mr. Martin's experiments. I especially like seeing how the foods I eat react to acid, just as they do in our stomachs."

ADOPTING SLOW TECH INNOVATIONS
We're happy to announce a new partnership with CoPilot Family, a company that provides schools and parents tools to navigate the world of smart devices in order to keep our children safe online. Click here for Journey's new procedures for on-campus mobile devices. Remember, children in K-5 are expected to remain entirely offline during the school week, and it is not until Middle School that we gradually integrate digital devices.
