COME AS STRANGERS, STAY AS FAMILY

The Journey Family welcomes fresh and familiar faces as we kick off a spectacular new year! Grades students launch the First Day with our beloved Rose Ceremony. The bell rings at 8:35, instruction starts at 8:40, and festivities run from 9:00-10:00. It is tradition for parents to sit with their class on the grass so please bring blankets, chairs, and water. Kindergarten parents are to escort students to class per the Bell Schedule.

CONGRATULATIONS STUDENTS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE!
In 2013, the CA Superintendent of Public Instruction recognized Journey for excellence in Environmental Education, Health, and Stewardship; US Secretary of Education Duncan selected Journey as a US Green Ribbon School; and students hosted federal, state, and local officials for a site visit.

Now, we are thrilled to announce that Journey is a finalist for the 2014 Project Tomorrow-OC Tech Alliance Innovation in Education Awards for Science, Math and Technology. More than 500 educational, business, and civic leaders will gather on October 9th to honor the finalists.

We're also proud that students once again performed admirably on the STAR exam for Science. Overall, 81% of test takers scored Proficient or Advanced in 2014, even though Journey does not emphasize standardized testing. Read our Blog to understand Science Education at Journey.

JOURNEY LANDS $480,000 GRANT!
The CA Finance Authority awarded Journey the largest grant in school history in July, $480,000! Only 1 other school in all of Orange County was selected. Monies will be received over the next 3 years to offset rent costs. The Journey School Development Office, led by Mr. Shaheer and the Foundation Board, are in pursuit of numerous other promising opportunities for external funding. Stay tuned...
CLOSE THE GAP DONATIONS ARE NOW NEEDED
The Development Office aims to fund the school's bright future, especially a permanent campus solution. At the same time, Journey depends upon your generosity to balance the yearly operational budget. Close the Gap donations from each family allow us to cover the high costs of tuition-free Waldorf Education. We need 90% of all families to donate by September 15 to maintain small class sizes, Grade 1 Assistants, Middle School Math/Science Specialists, and specialty offerings like Music, Painting, Spanish, Handwork, and PE. If you have not yet made your annual donation, please do so now on our website. You may also contact Cindy Barry to work out special arrangements.
WHEN WE ALL DO A LITTLE, WE ACCOMPLISH A LOT

Campus has never looked better! Classrooms are beautiful, gardens are blooming, buildings are painted, carpets are new, and student and adult bathrooms are remodeled. Thanks for rolling up your sleeves!
