The Thursday "Know"
June 5, 2014
FROM COMFORT ZONES TO CONFIDENT ZONES
At Journey, we encourage students to move out of their "comfort" zones and into their "confident" zones. Here's a peek at this week:

A 6th grader hung from a rope 35+ feet up in the air on a field trip cheered on by classmates.

Kindergartners visited the Green Heart Garden to harvest food for their Stone Soup. Many had never picked carrots before. "How can this be carrots when all we see are green leafy plants?" So they got their hands muddy, touched the soil and "Whoa! It's ORANGE! There's a carrot!" The carrots were fat and skinny, big and small. What a wonder!

A 1st and 2nd grader STOPPED to THINK before they ran to pick up a brother on the back field. "Wait! Which way is the quickest?" they questioned as they mapped it out in their heads and figured out the smartest way from Point A to Point B.

Max got help from his dad in carrying his Komodo Dragon animal report to be presented to his 4th Grade class.

8th Graders presented musical gifts to our parent volunteers during the Volunteer Appreciation Tea.
SUPPORT OUR 8TH GRADERS TONIGHT
The 8th Graders have worked so hard this year! We really owe it to them to come out tonight at 5pm and tomorrow at 6pm to support their 8th Grade Project presentations. Check out the presentation schedule
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION TEA
Parents were moved to tears as they received musical gifts, poems, flowers and lovingly-made treats from students and teachers at yesterday's annual appreciation tea organized by Parent Cabinet. One Journey parent said, "These artistic acknowledgements really drive home why we do what we do...these kids are amazing!" This year, Journey volunteers served over 15,000 hours with 90 families serving at least 50 hours and 63 more families serving at least 100 hours! Thank you Journey Volunteers!!!
