The Thursday "Know" (Special Edition)
|
May 30, 2014
|
The Spring Concert yesterday was an AWESOME culmination of the year and a great way for students to thank parents and teachers.
Research proves that even a few years of music exposure is beneficial to the overall development of children. At Journey, students sing regularly and play instruments in age-appropriate sequence: Grades 1-2: Pentatonic Flute; Grade 3: Recorder; Grades 4-5: Recorder and Violin; Grades 6-8: Recorder, Violin, Ukulele, Guitar, Cello, or Fiddle.
Read an overview of the program to understand why each stage is key. Click here to read about the importance of student practice and parent support. Thank you Ms. Poth, Ms. Corbo, Mr. Todd, and Mr. Billy! You provide unparalleled access to outstanding learning opportunities and we're thrilled the whole music team is returning for a 4th straight year.
Parents, look for information about our Summer Strings Camp.

2ND GRADERS PERFORM JUMPING MOUSE & READERS' THEATRE |
Mrs. Davis' students performed their annual class play on Thursday in the Green Heart Amphitheater. The students were creative, enthusiastic and and joyful. The play itself was rich with social and literacy lessons.
The play is an extension of Ms. Davis' master's thesis, which focuses on the benefits of Reader's Theatre. Ms. Davis will present her findings in Sacramento at the Art of Teaching Conference. She will also share research findings with colleagues during the end-of-the-year faculty retreat.

THE WHOLE CHILD IN THE DIGITAL AGE
|
On October 10-11 Journey will host a regional conference called, Educating the Whole Child in the Digital Age. Be on the lookout for conference and registration materials. Any educator, parent, and community partner may attend. The Alliance for Public Waldorf Education strongly endorses the conference because it is focused on Eco-Literacy, Social Literacy, and especially Digital Media Literacy (DML).

Rainbow Bridge Ceremony The Kindergarten promotion ceremony is a milestone in which each child bids farewell to their Kindergarten teacher and 'crosses' the rainbow bridge to meet the 1st grade teachers and visit to the 1st grade classrooms. 1st grade class list will be available in the summer.
Reverse Rose Ceremony First grades offer roses to their eighth grade buddies marking another significant transition and in a gesture of gratitude. During this ceremony of appreciation, each class and faculty presents the 8th graders with a musical or artistic gift. To conclude the day, all staff members "line up" to shake hands with each student as a closure to the school year.
8th Grade Graduation The Journey School community is invited to the 8th Grade Graduation Celebration on 6/14 at 11:00am at LDS Church in Aliso Viejo.
