2ND GRADE LITERACY & ENGAGEMENT
|
Ms. Davis' students are helping her conduct a year-long Action Research project for a second Master's Degree. The guiding question is: How will implementation of a differentiated "Reader's Theatre" program impact students' literacy capacities?
Mrs. Davis shares that students are making "remarkable progress and increases in motivation and the ability to read. It's exciting to watch their passion for writing grow, too. They are now formulating thoughtful, self-generated sentences and stringing them together with great mechanics."
Fellow Grade Two Teacher, Ms. Barger, is also focused on active learning opportunities in English Language Arts. Students just performed a fantastic class play called Stone Soup. Following the play, families and staff enjoyed homemade soup and bread prepared by the students.

Journey focuses on a virtue of the month which ties into weekly Compassionate Campus activities and civics meetings as well as the overall educational program. Courage is April's virtue. Please look for natural chances to talk about courage over break. It means having personal bravery in the face of fear. It is doing what needs to be done even when it is really hard or scary. Courage is the strength in your heart.

A special "thank you" from the Kindergarten Teachers:

Dear Journey Families: The Journey Kindergarten Community recently held a 'Welcome Spring' Work Day, and the Kindergarten Teachers want to send out a BIG THANK YOU to all who came out to help. We shared a lovely Saturday filled with productive work, great food, good friends, family, and thoughtful conversations.
It was a joy to share this experience with the children, to witness their curiosity and support their work-participation. These community experiences reinforce the foundation of Journey School's values and ethics.... Read more on our blog.

WHAT GOES ONLINE STAYS ONLINE FOREVER

Our CyberCivics teacher, Diana Graber, shared valuable information about the Yik Yak app and online reputation management in her Cyberwise newsletter. Read it here.

In typical Journey fashion, the community rallied together and bought a car for Ms. Nicholson, First Grade Teacher. The surprise gift was bestowed after school while colleagues sang the classic Irish blessing, "May Troubles Be Less and Blessings Be More." It was a touching event and all of us were reminded of the loving and resilient spirit that is Journey School.
Ms. Nicholson wanted you all to know, "What a tremendous gift and incredible surprise the car was! A special thanks to Jennifer Hopps and all of you who contributed and made this possible. We truly feel cared for, loved, and supported. I treasure our partnership." |
