6TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE "KNIGHTED"
|
6th Grade students are in the midst of the Middle Ages. Throughout the year, they've learned about knights, King Arthur's Roundtable, the impact of Charlemagne's reign, the role of the church in shaping daily lives, the concept of social stratification, the importance of literacy in historical context, and much more.
In typical Journey style, students have also experienced powerful hands-on lessons, including a rite of passage known as the Knighting Process. Students have completed community service projects, abundant home and school responsibilities, as well as physical challenges. Tonight, students will take a twelve hour-long vow of silence to reflect on what it means to be a noble human being, just like knights of the past. Students will then camp in individual tents alone and emerge at dawn as stronger individuals committed to doing good in the world.
On Friday, students will spend the day in service to the campus, followed by a feast for the ages and a formal knighting ceremony. Finally, their studies will culminate next week in a regional competition known as Medieval Games--where students compete against hundreds of Waldorf students in the Javelin, Tug-of-War, Archery, Chariot Races, and much more! Next year, students' world studies will lead them to Africa, through the Renaissance, and onto the Age of Exploration. Special thanks to Pradhan Studios for photos.

ALUMNI ATTEND GALLERY WALK
|
Alumni joined parents and staff last night for a student-prepared feast in the garden, a stroll through Gallery Walk, and an inspiring discussion about high school, college, and life after Journey.
Thank you to everyone who chipped in, especially Ms. Tammra and Ms. Rachel, who orchestrated the event.

STUDENTS MAKING A DIFFERENCE
|
Our students make a positive difference in their community. 2nd Grader, Bella, earned a gold medal in a race to raise funds for schools. 7th Grader, Sierra, regularly helps animals at the Pacific Mammal Center while her classmate, Phoebe, supports her younger brother's baseball team. And, you may see 8th Grader Carson Ripley building shaded benches on campus for younger peers as part of an Eagle Scouts project.

JOURNEY CAMPUS COMMON COURTESY
|
Our school is growing which puts added strain on our resources. Our shared spaces (kitchens, play yards, etc.) and instructors are feeling the impact. Take these simple steps to maintain a harmonious environment:
- Leave a place in better condition than you found it
- Use quiet voices outside classrooms
- Do not allow your children to disrupt aftercare
- Arrive on time
|
There may be an elevated number of measles cases in south OC at the present time. No cases or symptoms have been reported at school. We are passing this knowledge along for informative reasons only. Please contact your health care provider regarding questions.

T-DAP RECORDS ARE PAST DUE: 7TH GRADE
|
To secure your child's space in next year's 7th Grade you must comply with T-dap immunization requirements. Submit records to Ms. Shoon before spring break. There are no exceptions and this is time sensitive.
|
Confirmation letters and wait list letters have been mailed. We must have your written response no later than 4/1 or we may issue your child's reservation to another student. Please click here for FAQs.

PLANNING AHEAD FOR 2014-2015
|
Plan ahead for the 2014-15 school year! We are trying to accomplish all of these things before June:
- After school sign-ups
- Lunch sign-ups
- Finalizing school calendar and PC events calendar
This will allow you to plan summer accordingly. (Prospective after-care providers may submit proposals, credentials, and qualifications vis--vis the employment page of the website. Successful teaching experience will be prioritized and background checks are mandatory.)
