KNOW HOW SAM IN 4TH GRADE FELT ABOUT THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION VISIT
|
Dear Mr. Shaheer:
I enjoyed very much being a class representative at the Green Ribbon Award Tour. It was cool talking to people in such high positions in the government. I was honored to talk about the third grade garden in front of people from the US Department of Education and Agriculture. This was a once in a lifetime experience and is something I will never forget. I want to thank Journey for teaching me how to take care of the environment in my community and for nurturing my love for gardens.

(Share with friends & family!)

KNOW WHAT 7TH GRADERS ARE LEARNING
|
 | Student art across the curriculum |
So far this year, my 7th grade class learned about the Age of Discovery during Main Lesson. We learned that Marco Polo inspired people, including Columbus, to travel the globe. We learned that the leader of the Chinese Ming Fleet, Zheng He, built ships four times as big as Columbus's. We learned that the great African, Ibn Battuta, was the world's first tourist. And today, we learned important aspects about Columbus's journey to America. Last Friday, we had a quiz about our studies and will have another this Friday. I really enjoy learning about The Age of Discovery and I am excited to learn more!

KNOW ABOUT JOURNEY SCHOOL FACTS
|
KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF ATTENDANCE
|
Both common sense and research teach us that students must be in school to learn. Please ensure your child does not miss any school unless there is a real emergency or illness. During Week 1, school-wide attendance was 98.42%. During Week 2, attendance was 97.61% and Week 3 showed a significant dip to 96.32%. Together, let's stop this downward trend. Aside from the loss of academic and social learning, the school loses approximately $47 each time a student is absent--no matter the reason. Our monthly attendance rate should be no less than 98% at Journey given the student's love for learning and parents' commitment. If your child is ill, please contact the school office at (949) 448-7232x1 each day that your child is absent. Thank you for your support.

KNOW HOW YOU CAN HELP GREEN OUR LUNCH PROGRAM
|
In keeping with the environmental efforts of the school, the Journey/Wahoo's Lunch Program fundraiser for 8th graders has taken two steps to be even more environmentally-conscious.
- First, all bowls, tacos and quesadillas are served in recyclable containers. Please reinforce with your children the importance of recycling these containers in our Blue Recycling Cans.
- Second, rather than distributing forms to every student, forms are available online or in the Lunch Drawer of the office. Online ordering is also available. Please be aware that the current ordering period is through October 11th so to get lunches after that you'll need to pick up a form, print out a form or order online.

Garden Work Day Helpers:
- Thank you to the parents and children who came out on Saturday, September 14th and helped with final preparations for the Green Ribbon tour. It was hot and hard work, but the campus looks beautiful and our outdoor classrooms are ready for our students.
