THE THURSDAY "KNOW"

KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING

  • Parent Involvement:

    • Garden Work day is this Saturday (9/14) from 8am to noon. Visit journeygardens.shutterfly.com for more garden info.
    • Harvest Faire Committee Meeting (9/18) at 9am. All hands on deck as parents work together to host the Harvest Faire on 11/2. Please invite many members of the public. Click here for more information.
    • Mr. Shaheer invites everyone to come out and join him next Wednesday after drop-off as he rolls up his sleeves and gets his hands dirty with the Garden Helpers.

  • CSA Fruit & Veggie Boxes: As part of our commitment to student health & family wellness, Tanaka Farms delivers produce directly to Journey School for $20 or $30 per box. Click here to sign-up so your family is nourished by local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA).

  • Ecoliteracy: We will host the U.S. Department of Education on Monday as part of their "Built to Last" best practices educational tour.  Students will lead campus tours for visitors.

  • Recycling Thursday is Back: Every Thursday morning at drop-off our 5th grade team collects CRV labeled plastic bottles and aluminum cans. No glass please. The collection point is at front of the school near the basketball courts.

KNOW WHAT YOU MISSED AT BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Talk to your room parents about information or volunteer sign-ups you might have missed if you could not make it to back to school night. It was an opportunity to come together as a community to learn more about your child's class, ecoliteracy, digital literacy, Compassionate Campus, and Parent Cabinet. Attendees also learned about specialty classes and the middle school grading software.
KNOW ABOUT COMPASSIONATE CAMPUS
We learned at Back to School Night that this month's Compassionate Campus theme is UNITY. Be sure to ask your child about his or her younger or older "buddy" and what they have talked about this week. A Compassionate Campus curriculum is in the making and will be on our website soon. Learn more about our Compassionate Campus program here.
KNOW ABOUT PARENT EDUCATION
While Journey School facilitates these parent education opportunities, we do not manage them; each provider is entirely responsible for all aspects of the class.

  • Crafts. "Metal Working & Jewelry" and "Fairy of the Pumpkin Patch" are scheduled for Monday, September 16th through the Journey School store. Click here for more info.

KNOW YOU'RE APPRECIATED
Thank you to parents who attended the Parent Cabinet Social and to those who set it up. Campus has been active with room parents, garden helpers, Parent Cabinet, and the Journey School store opening. Thanks, also, to alumni who attended Back to School night.
