NEW KINDY BELL SCHEDULE
The start time for KINDY ONLY will be at 8:45am in an attempt to allow families with young children to arrive on time and to alleviate drop-off and pick-up traffic. There will be limited supervised Kindy care from 8:30am for those with older Journey siblings and to help working parents. Kindy parents will still need to walk their children to the door and Kindy pick up will be at 12:45pm except for Wednesdays (when it will be 12:30pm). All other grades begin at 8:30am and end at 3:00pm except on Wednesday, when ALL K-8 ends at 12:30pm. The bell schedule is always on the calendar page of JourneySchool.net.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Our afterschool programs will begin the 2nd week of school. We are still securing a few of the classes, so please look for an email soon for an updated list of our class offerings and registration information. In the meantime, please contact journeyschoolnews@gmail.com for more information.
DRESS CODE AND LUNCH CONTAINERS
Order, shop or trade now for your rainwear, coats, boots, hats, indoor and gym shoes. Avoid the last minute scramble.

Please be sure to read the school's dress code agreement carefully. Pay especially close attention to the size of logos and the length of shorts/skirts. The dress code has not changed, though the dress code committee will resume its work in the Fall on making recommendations for future implementation.

It's also important to send lunches and snacks in reusable containers. The avoidance of commercialism and excessive food packaging is another aspect of our commitment to environmental consciousness.  In past years, we've recommended www.reuseit.com and enter this code to give Journey a small percentage of your order: L11Journey.
SUMMER WORK PARTIES - AUGUST 10TH, 17TH & 24TH
Join us THIS SATURDAY on August 10th for a summer Garden Work Party & to help prep the 1st and 7th grade classrooms.

Please call Michele Whiteaker at 949-466-3959, if you'd like to help. The more hands the better! We'll start at 9am and end by 2pm.

Also save the following two Saturdays, August 17th & 24th for more work parties to tackle additional projects and address any items that don't get marked off the list this Saturday.

Please come if you can--we scheduled 3 Saturdays in a row to factor in travel plans--no one is expected to come to all 3.

Congratulations to Our Faculty Graduates!

Congratulations to Laura Bujjoni, Jill Murphy, Jennifer Hopps, Kim Torrey, Amanda Simmons, Alyson Smith, Shelley Kelly, Julia Cameron, Tammra Tanner, and Shaheer Faltas for completing a 3-year Waldorf Certification Program in July.

Robin Davis and Jayme Barger are well on their way and will finish in 2013-14.

ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCEMENTS

Some may remember Gavin Keller teaching 7th grade at Journey School. We are thrilled to have him back in the position of Assistant Administrator!

On August 1st, I was thrilled to return to Journey School in an administrative capacity.  I spent the last year and a half working in student affairs at the University of California, Irvine, acquiring administrative work experience, knowledge, and skills.   While it was a terrific opportunity at the university level, I missed working with children, my partnerships with parents, and collaborating with the entire Journey community.  It is an honor to rejoin the Journey team.   With my experience as a former Journey main lesson teacher and administrative qualifications, I look forward to contributing to the philosophies and goals of this terrific school.

Best regards,

Gavin Keller

Bonnie Rivers is a champion for public Waldorf education and works closely with Alliance for Public Waldorf Education. She has returned to full-time college work. She will stay in close contact with Journey and our teachers.

Patti Connolly will not be on campus as much this year, but we must emphasize she will remain a valued coach and mentor. Her role might be changing, but we are not saying goodbye!
